Black Lives Matter protesters interrupt Hillary rally
Source: The Hill
Protesters with the Black Lives Matters movement interrupted a Hillary Clinton rally in Atlanta on Friday, where she planned to unveil her criminal justice reform plan.
Members of the civil rights group in the crowd chanted Black Lives Matters and sang hymns throughout her speech.
Yes, yes they do, Clinton said, trying to placate the group. "And Im going to talk a lot about that in a minute.
Now my friends, I am going to get to some very important points that actually prove that black lives do matter and we have to take action together, she added. And I hope that well have a chance to talk more as I have been meeting with activists from the Black Lives Matter movement.

(7,107 posts)They have had plenty of time. They haven't had the guts though.
Cowards.
I'll retract that when they actually have the bravery interrupt more Republican events than Democratic events. I won't be holding my breath though.

.......Atlanta (CNN)Black Lives Matter protesters interrupted Hillary Clinton on Friday while she was speaking at a historically black university here.
The protesters began chanting "black lives matter" a few minutes into her speech.
At first, the former secretary of state acknowledged them: "Yes they do and I'm gonna talk a lot about that in a minute," she said.
She then tried ignoring the protesters, shouting her remarks over the chants.
"I have some issues to discuss and proposals to make if our friends will allow me to do it. They may actually find them to their liking," Clinton said, while continuing to speak over the disruption, one of the loudest she had faced on the campaign trail.
As the protests continued, Clinton supporters began chanting "Let her talk, Let her talk." Others chanted, "Hillary! Hillary" very loudly, seemingly to drown out the protesters.
Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon who had introduced Clinton just minutes before, personally tried to break up the protests, putting his hands on the shoulders of the protesters and speaking with them................

(7,107 posts)As if any Republican wouldn't be 1000 times worse, yet where are these BLM protesters at Republican events?
Idiots.

(7,107 posts)I doubt I'll be seeing them at a Trump/Cruz/Carson rally anytime soon though.

(6,785 posts)For which I'll give a lot of credit to Obama for things like the Fair Sentencing Act, that brought how racist much of our justice system is to a lot of people that had no idea. (Very few on this board were shocked by it, I'd hope.)
I think Sanders or Clinton would have probably continued making progress on the issue.
I'm not going to hate on BLM either. I've applauded Code Pink for disrupting politicians, and Pussy Riot and Occupy for making scenes, so I'm not about to gripe about a group that's this angry about something this important doing the same thing.

(62,269 posts)But I'm not so sure this stuff would be in their stump speeches to the extent it now is.

(70,190 posts)is the right way to go--in getting attention-especially at this event --a black college. People in the audience came to her Hillary-The Cnn reporter said BLM protesters went on for about 30 minutes--as Hillary shouted over them--or tried. then they were escorted out.

(57 posts)Very COWARDLY of them to protest Clinton and Sanders--who support their every effort--- and to ignore the overwhelming Racism of the Republican candidates.
Guess they are afraid to protest the GOP. Kind of makes you wonder who is sponsoring their silly, mis-guided efforts.

(15,882 posts)But probably you can't get a clear view from up there on the High Horse of Self-Righteousness:
They don't expect the Repubs to change, and they won't. Hearts, generally, don't change, so it would be a waste of time.
They are instead addressing the hypocrisy, as they see it, of people for whom this should have been more of an issue, challenging their comfort.
They want Democrats to lead.

(291 posts)Sec Clinton's proposals are bullsheisse. The Clintons' policies put Black citizens in a horrible position and now all of a sudden they want to address the issue after Sen Sanders adapted his position after being shutdown by BLM at a single rally.
Yeah, how declare Black people protest anything as if they didn't have equal rights. (Sarcasm alert.)
Maybe all of us need to think this thing threw before reacting:

(2,807 posts)when are they going to protest the people that actually think they belong in the back of the bus?
Beyond that though, those of us who understand their desperation for change must ask, how can we help? We get it and are angry that our society is still having these issues. It is an embarrassment, we know. What should we do? Specifically, what steps should we take? Give us a some guidance. We want to make some progress toward a better outcome for POC, now what next?
We are your allies, help us move forward. And stop yelling at us for a while. Go interrupt the crazies.
