Nikki Haley to deliver GOP response to State of the Union

Source: CNN

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will deliver the Republican Party's official response to the State of the Union on January 12, a major test for someone considered to be a potential nominee for vice president.

"I was honored to be asked by (House Speaker Paul Ryan) and (Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell) to deliver the Republican address to the nation," Haley said in a statement Tuesday. "This is a time of great challenges for our country, but also of great opportunities. I intend to speak about both."

"Nikki Haley has led an economic turnaround and set a bold agenda for her state, getting things done and becoming one of the most popular governors in America," Ryan said in a statement. "In a year when the country is crying out for a positive vision and alternative to the status quo, Gov. Haley is the exact right choice to deliver the Republican address to the nation."

Including Haley, Republican women have delivered the last three GOP responses -- Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa spoke in 2015 and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington did so in 2014.

Too bad it took a hate-triggered mass murder to make her sympathetic to Southerners who are offended by slavery and don't wish to honor the brutality of Jim Crow with taxpayers' funds. Given that, once there was blood on a church floor, she finally worked up the gumption to do the right thing, that makes her just about the most mature Republican in the country.

I'm sure that once she takes the mic, she'll destroy the current illusion of her being a smarter version of Sarah Palin with just a light glaze of Southern charm. But for the moment, I'll just say this is a smart pick.

She only has to give it up after she is elected, and not until she would be sworn in in January 20, 2017.

her parents were Indian immigrants.

The popular governor, whose parents emigrated from India, is the youngest chief executive running a state. And she offers the GOP an opportunity to reach out to women at a time when the nasty presidential contest has featured debate that many party leaders are worried could turn off female voters.

That could preset a problem if the Repukes play it right.

won't help with the women cred. She line vetoed funding to rape crisis centers, calling rape victims a "special interest group"

She only became a Christian when she started to run for public office, She also went by Nimrata until running for office, Now she is Nikki

Many people are pissed that she kicked Darla Moore off the USC board of trustees and replaced her with a campaign donor. Darla Moore has donated over 70 million dollars to USC. But made the mistake of backing Haley's opponent in the election.

If she get the VP slot, will her corruption finally be investigated?

Haley could win the South, Christie could win Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan. Haley could do well-but she could be another Palin. The GOP knows what they are doing. They're trying to win female voters.
