'El Chapo' Has Been Captured, Mexican President Says

Source: ABC News

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto tweeted today that the infamous drug lord known as “El Chapo” has been captured.

"Mission accomplished: We have him. I want to inform the Mexicans that Joaquin Guzman Loera has been detained," the tweet states, originally in Spanish.

No further details have been released.

Guzman escaped from the Altiplano prison near Mexico City on July 11 and there has been an active manhunt for him ever since.

It's not like there's no one to step up if El Chapo's heart gives out....

Who knows? Maybe someone ratted him out!

insist on holding him, as they did last time, Guzman's gang is likely already working on an escape plan. It was essentially an unsuccessful experiment of "national honor" for Mexico to prove they were sufficiently honest to ensure Guzman would be held securely.

The US is again requesting extradition which, if granted, would bring Guzman to a more secure environment - maybe even the supermax federal prison in Florence, Colorado. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADX_Florence

I wouldn't bet any money that Mexico will extradite him.

The logistics will take a while. I'm sure they will try to hold him more securely this time. There are people to bribe and threaten and maybe some holes to dig, but with the cartel's wealth and brutality another escape wouldn't surprise me.
