Attorneys: Chicago cops falsified witnesses' accounts, threatened them

Source: CNN

Chicago (CNN)At least three witnesses to the Laquan McDonald police killing were questioned for hours, threatened by officers and ordered to change their accounts to match the official Chicago police version of the shooting, the attorneys for the teen's estate say.

The allegations are contained in more than 3,000 pages of recently released documents related to the case. The attorneys also allege that police officers up the chain of command fabricated witness accounts to support the way officers at the scene described the October 20, 2014, shooting as justified.

...

Another witness, a truck driver who was at a nearby Burger King, told the attorneys that he and two other witnesses, a woman and her friend who both saw the shooting, were put in police cars, taken to a station and interviewed for hours in separate rooms.

"He kept describing it and he said the police were visibly angry with him and arguing with him about what happened, saying, 'That's not what happened,' " Robbins said. "He'd say, 'Well, that's what I saw.' They said, 'No, you're wrong.' "

At one point, the trucker told police he needed to get back to work for a 6 a.m. shift, according to Robbins. "The police said, 'We don't give a f--- about your truck. Let's go through this again,' " Robbins said.

Jail time.

After all, he doesn't need the salary from any elected office. He made more money and established more connections by pilfering away and transforming the people's Choice of Single Payer Universal HC into the sham that is Obamacare than most of us could only dream of.

It is possible to call out someone as blatantly corrupt as Rahm regardless of who one supports in the primary.

And crying "corruption" against the winner every time you lose an election (especially a primary) just reeks of immaturity.

Since you are all hot and bothered to throw Rahm Emanuel in jail, what crime do you accuse him of committing?

And no, any crybaby "He won, and wasn't my candidate, and that makes him a both corrupt and mean at the same time" doesn't cut it.

List the actual laws.

Oh, and while you're at it, please explain why Republicans haven't jumped on this supposed "lawbreaking" you've invented.

Need I mention that the mayor isn't responsible for what Chicago beat cops do?

"Snubbing the Needs of Average People" - Rahm is managing a city with a ongoing budget crisis, but even if it were actually true, this isn't a crime. It's a whine. "I don't like him... whaaaaaaaa".

"Cozying Up to Cronies" - Apparently, these people think the mayor personally is involved in zoning changes. I went and checked. There is a zoning board of appeals. I don't see any evidence of anything remotely illegal, even if the "worst" of these accusations are true.

"Making Deals that Send Our Tax Dollars to Wall Street" - More whining. Hell, maybe it's even true. It's still not a crime.

One of the things our founding fathers were fed up with as far as the British Crown was concerned, was the criminalization of politics. And for good reason. I find it sadly expected that the same people who complain about being called "traitors" just for opposing US wars, hypocritically want to use the legal system as a substitute for winning elections.

Don't know if the top person is the commissioner or whatever, but women who were mayors or city council people in Baltimore and Minneapolis both publicly have complained and tried to take action against the illegal activities of police in their cities.

BTW, Mayor Daley Sr was totally responsible for the cops in Chicago. Maybe you don't think that Rahm is as powerful, or as smart or what, but Daley Sr really had control over those cops holding a badge and being "we serve and protect" circa 1955 until the mid-1970's, but that does not mean that powerful mayors do not keep tabs on the cops.

I don't alert on people, and the DU doesn't take alerts against the too-radical-left-to-be-Democratic hive-mind seriously.

I don't take people who fantasize about throwing Democrats in jail seriously, though. (Or most Republicans, for that matter.) And if you love the idea of the US having politicized kangaroo courts, this applies to you as well.

This is beyond day to day operations of any police force. It is corruption on the very worst level. But it ain't new in Chicago and many other cities.
