Filter Delivery To Flint Casts Doubt On What Snyder Said

LANSING -- Gov. Rick Snyder's statement Monday that he wasn't aware of a problem with lead in Flint's drinking water until about Oct. 1 of 2015 has prompted new questions about the role of Snyder's office in quietly delivering 1,500 water filters to the city in August.
Snyder's statement also raises questions about the speed and scope of the state's response since Oct. 1 and why state officials did not immediately instruct Flint residents on Oct. 1 not to drink the water without a filter. A 10-point plan for Flint water that Snyder released on Oct. 2 said the state was making water filters and water testing available to Flint residents, but did not include a warning not to drink the water without a filter.
Today -- more than three months later -- the Michigan State Police and other state officials have just begun delivering bottled water and water filters door-to-door in Flint. Snyder declared a state of emergency in Flint and Genesee County over the water issue on Jan. 5.
The drinking water became contaminated after Flint, while under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager engaged in cost-cutting, switched from Lake Huron drinking water treated by the Detroit Water and Sewerage Company to Flint River water treated by a city treatment plant. The state Department of Environmental Quality has acknowledged it failed to require Flint to add needed corrosion control chemicals to the water, causing lead to leach into the drinking water from pipes and fixtures.

(11,415 posts)Greedy Republican idiots have poisoned the children of flint and are trying their best to weasel out of their responsibilities. It is the foolishness of the egotists who launch into cuts to the general public with no knowledge of the harm they are doing.
This is the best reason not to place anyone in power who does not put the public concerns first.

(4,959 posts)The people running this state are well aware of what is happening. They just don't give a shit because most of those who are suffering are poor, or brown, or both.
Incompetence is bad. Willfully allowing this shit to go down is a thousand times worse. These fuckers are criminals and should be locked the fuck up. They aren't foolish and they aren't incompetent. They know just what is going on.
Sorry, rant not directed at you, LOL, just came flying outta my fingertips with no control

(11,415 posts)I am totally disgusted. Much like the deaths at the Nola Super-dome and the disregard for those lives, this is criminal neglect.
This was the result of greed and the overlook of rules and regulations.Nola was caused by flooding and the inability and under-funding of FEMA to expedite help.
Poor and Black lives do not matter to these Republicans.
Money does. They should lose all they have and once they are poor they will care about those in need because they are very self centered.

(45,984 posts)It sounds like he and the GOP crooks in the state legislature don't know how to run the state without poisoning people.
Perhaps the people of Michigan should restore democracy and put and end to this experiment in Roman-style imperial tyranny.

(16,072 posts)...who surrendered their democracy to Snyder and the Republicans, not once, but twice!
Can the same people who gave up their democracy, really be expected to restore it? That would mean that they have to admit making a mistake...and too many of them are full of pride, and don't think they made a mistake!
On the bright side, Snyder can't run again, unless he can convince the people of Michigan to change the state Constitution!!
But, considering he was able to convince the people to vote for him twice, you never know do you?
