Volkswagen recall plans rejected by US regulators

US regulators have rejected Volkswagen's recall plan for diesel cars equipped with emissions "cheat" devices.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) proposals did "not adequately address overall impacts on vehicle performance, emissions and safety".
The board also said the proposed fix was not fast enough.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also said the VW plan for vehicles with two litre diesel engines was not acceptable.

(20,958 posts)and i LOVE my car. my gen TDI sportwagen f'n rocks, but it has no trade-in value. before this story hit i was getting CALLS from salesmen offering $14,000 cash on the spot for it. but, i love my car, so i ignored them.
right now i'm enjoying my "goodwill package": $500 VISA, 3-year roadside assistance, and $500 to spend at VW (will probably get my suspension worked on).

(6,241 posts)the fix is put in, their performance and mileage will be reduced big time, and they won't go for the fix until they absolutely have to.
Do the inspectors have the update that will detect VW's cheat? How is that being done?

"September 25, 2006Honda Motor Co., Ltd., announced it has developed a next-generation diesel engine that reduces exhaust gas emissions to a level equal to a gasoline engine. Hondas next-generation diesel engine employs a revolutionary NOx catalytic converter that enables a great reduction in NOx emissions sufficient to meet stringent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier II Bin 5 emissions requirements (based on Hondas internal calculations)."
