Iran agrees to buy 114 aircraft from Airbus -Tasnim news agency

Source: Gulf News

DUBAI: Iran has agreed to buy 114 civil aircraft from European aircraft maker Airbus, the transport minister was quoted as saying on Saturday, ahead of the anticipated lifting of international sanctions on Iran.

"We have taken the first step in agreeing with Airbus to buy 114 planes," Abbas Akhoondi was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.

Airbus said it was not engaging in commercial talks with Iran until sanctions had been lifted. Sanctions were expected to be lifted later on Saturday, as diplomats gathered in Vienna and Iran said it had freed four US citizens from jail.

"Although Iran clearly has a need for new aircraft, we must conform strictly to the law and, until all measures concerning the embargo are lifted, no commercial discussions can take place," a spokesman said.

That's called competition - the end-all-and-be-all, so Rapepublicans always tell us.

people with $40,000 incomes and little net worth find it worthwhile to fight their fights, because it makes them 'feel' just a little bit richer.

Makes you wonder how humanity got this far.

I once had a co-worker who kept a tabletop radio just blaring Morphine Rush's bloviations non-stop while I was doing paperwork a few feet away. I didn't dare complain: the bosses were right-wing drunks, and this was in Orange Cunty, California.

Luckily, with my Bose radio and really good headphones, the Lumpball harangues were barely audible past the Coltrane and the Johnny Hartman. I've had friends and acquaintances in the same situation, and they weren't as lucky.

I think they tell each other to do that, in the hope that they'll smoke liberal coworkers out. Some of these people are really like something out of a Mad Max movie.

I had two friends in high school who, despite being accomplished and reasonably sharp, looked like wide-eyed four year-olds waiting for Santa anytime anyone would mention Limbaugh.

One of them was killed by the bottle years later, and the other became a moderately successful pediatrician - but he's gay. I certainly hope he's not still a Republican.

Ah, the things one remembers when someone bring up the '90s. If I could go back in time...

Then to have their hero to take over.

Least of all in the United States of America - often referred to as "the world's leading country" by people from a lot of other places.

They were quite relieved when I explained that it was a very vocal, extremist minority - not the voters in general.

"Oh," they'd say. "You know, we have them too."

That's why "the American Taliban" is so fitting for today's GOP. Ike, Nelson Rockefeller, and Everett Dirksen must be rolling in their graves.

I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was in school at the time, and had just left my place to go vote in the evening after seeing CNN project Florida for Gore.

"This is it!" I thought.

Ah, to be that young and naive again.

I used to listen to that Asshat, then 1310 the Ticket (the first full time sports radio station) hit the airwaves of Dallas. It was the start of my journey away from right wing assholishness.

The end result of conservatives making us "consumers" instead of citizens. Any attempt of conservatives to make this a flag-waving issue is equally laughable, what with the massive amount of subassembly and components that Boeing offshores.

I know for a fact Airbus planes use lots and lots of US part content. In fact, I'd like to see a breakdown Airbus vs Boeing on US content. I bet it'll be surprising.

In the old days, the elite would censor. These days of course, they've gotten very savvy about it, and simply misinform.

So much more effective - plus it gives people the impression of having a truly free press.
