Au revoir and shalom: Jews leave France in record numbers

Source: CNN

Yoav Krief remembers the day he knew it was time to move to Israel: January 9, 2015.

It was a Friday. Four Jews had just been killed in the Hyper Cacher, a kosher supermarket in Paris, two days after the Charlie Hebdo attack. One of them was Krief's friend.

<snip>

Nearly 8,000 French Jews moved to Israel in the year following the Charlie Hebdo attack, according to the Jewish Agency, which handles Jewish immigration, or aliyah, to Israel.

The number of French Jews moving to Israel has doubled -- and doubled again -- in the past five years.

In 2013, less than 3,300 French Jews moved to Israel. Only two years earlier, that number stood at 1,900.

<snip>

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls recently expressed the fear that an exodus of Jews would change the country for the worse.

"Without the Jews, France is no longer France. It's the oldest community. They have been French citizens since the French revolution," he told CNN's Christiane Amanpour.

Fear of being seen as Jewish

But when the European Union studied the prevalence of anti-Semitism in 2013, it found that 74% of Jews in France avoid openly identifying themselves as Jewish at least some of the time, and more than a quarter of French Jews always do.

If not, then it is not surprising that Jews would want to leave and France must not really care that much about keeping its Jewish community and its contributions. Same goes for other European countries.

There is simply no way to prevent many of the lone wolf or small cell acts of terror.

A subset of a group terrorizes another group to produce submission and corpses.

Of course, vacating the area also works. Until there's no place else to go.

I was going somewhere else, actually.

While the anti-semitism that thrived in France before recent events may not have manifested itself in the form of patterned violence, Jews were very often made to feel like they were not true frenchman by many native French. And now that this faction has finally gotten their wish with Jews leaving in droves, I find it ironic that in return, they have gotten new citizens more intolerant than themselves.

I hope it will not continue, but I fear that it will if the whole migrant/refugee problem is not solved. Europe is faced with a crisis that it obviously does not know what to do about.

Almost all of the muslims that I have known, including the African American ones born in the US seem to hate the Jewish people.

Even if they are not very religious. I had a buddy I worked with, black guy who lived during segregation who converted to Islam. He was from Cleveland originally and told me "Hitler was right about those people" which pretty much shocked me considering he had experience hatred and discrimination himself. His girlfriend's family was from Germany and he actually made common cause with her grandmother on hating the Jews. He even was reading Hitlers Mein Kamph once.

The other muslims I know aren't as overt but they all would say stuff that was really no in keeping with their otherwise normal personality.

The weird thing is I've never heard a single Jewish person say anything bad about the Muslims. The local Rabbi used to eat in the middle eastern restaurant run by some guys from Jordan.

After reading about how many muslims are in France I totally understood the reason France has such generous family benefits. They want more French people to have kids so the newcomers are adapting to the French culture rather than the other way around.

What was it the Palestinians used to say about fighting for Yasser Arafat in their bedrooms? (ie demographically overwhelming the Israelis?)

Send the damn refugee's back and deal with the boarder (as much as I hate it).

If they want to host refugee's, do it the way American and Canada are.

How do they factor into his little worldview?

Or are the only acceptable Jews the ones who don't look religious so they don't upset anyone?

If the same activities start happening in other European cities, and IMO it is only a matter of time, we will likely see the same numbers, or at least increases, in those countries as well.
