WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) A person with a gun prompted a lockdown at a central North Carolina college, although it is not believed any shots were fired.
Winston-Salem State University spokesman Aaron Singleton said campus police were notified around 9:30 p.m. Monday that an "interaction" in a student activities center led to a person displaying a gun. The campus was put on lockdown just after 9:45 p.m. as police searched for the suspect, who fled the area.
Singleton says there is no indication shots were fired. There were no reports of injuries.
A campus-wide crime alert said officers had surveyed WSSU and found no ongoing threat, but students were urged to exercise caution during the overnight hours. No one is in custody.
