Major Nevada union, Sanders campaign resolve dispute

Source: CNN

By Dan Merica

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN)Nevada's powerful Culinary Union and the Bernie Sanders campaign say they've resolved their issues after a kerfuffle earlier Thursday had the group at odds with the Vermont senator's presidential operation in a key early voting state.

The union had accused Bernie Sanders' campaign staffers of posing as union workers in an attempt to gain access to their members, a charge the Sanders campaign denied.

The union and Sanders campaigners later said the issue, which was first reported by Ralston Reports' Jon Ralston, had been settled.

Snip: Culinary has long been at the center of the Nevada caucuses. The union endorsed Barack Obama in 2008, a race where Clinton campaign staffers were accused of trying to infiltrate various casinos and resorts in Las Vegas.

FULL story at link.

Good quick response by the Sander's campaign. They should expect more of this slimy crap from the Clinton campaign but they need to keep their composure.

As you said in the post - Look who the accuser is standing next to in the photo

---

"Culinary has long been at the center of the Nevada caucuses. The union endorsed Barack Obama in 2008, a race where Clinton campaign staffers were accused of trying to infiltrate various casinos and resorts in Las Vegas."

---

"We are disappointed and offended," said Geoconda Arguello-Kline, the union's secretary-treasurer. "It's completely inappropriate for any campaign to attempt to mislead Culinary Union members, especially at their place of work."

---

Jeff Weaver, Sanders' campaign manager, said Thursday -- after the statement from culinary was released -- that his understanding is that none of the staffers "ever misrepresented who they were."

---

Snip: Pablo said. "We have always thought we have had a positive relationship with them and for them to come out so strongly against us and to go to the press first, that surprises me."

---

No surprise really.

Even when they invited all candidates...they gave everyone a button is 'solidarity'.

This was smoke and bullshit. If you didn't send an actual staffer, they said you didn't care about them. So we made the effort. I sat in their meetings in 04 in another state. This is part of the work, even though I knew their leader was supporting someone else. He was so kind because I came to all of their meetings.

Again, just bullshit!

Being in the photo leaves it up to individuals to decide for themselves. After all the crap thrown yesterday (and still today in the Hillary group after being debunked) it is fair to say this might be the problem.

Clinton and O'Malley both made appearances at the Culinary Union's protests against the casinos. You could certainly say that the candidates were there for photo ops, but they were there.

It's really thin grounds for attacking the honesty of a union. We should be supportive of unions moreso than we are supportive of candidates in a primary.

But I think you're a bit caught up in primary fever.

the Culinary Union in Las Vegas is not known for keeping things quiet--they tore into Hillary in 2008, and Bill tore into them. It got really nasty--apparently that's how politics is done there.

They could have kept things quieter, Bernie's staffers could have just said "oops, sorry, won't happen again" but not everyone handles things perfectly.

14. From the article
Fri Jan 29, 2016, 02:32 PM

Pointing out what might have happened in union politics wasn't meant as an attack.

Emilia Pablo, Sanders's state communications director, told CNN on Thursday that no one from the campaign is misrepresenting who they are in casinos, but that they are wearing Culinary union buttons. What's more, Pablo said she was surprised the union came out so strongly against their campaign.
