Concerned Student 1950 responds to Melissa Click's suspension

Source: KOMU

COLUMBIA - The Concerned Student 1950 protest group weighed in on the suspension of University of Missouri Assistant Professor Melissa Click.

"It is unfortunate that Melissa Click has become the victim of social and political violence," the statement on Twitter said.

The protest group called Click a "white woman, professor and ally who supported historically marginalized students at the University of Missouri during a time when students were exposing the institution for preserving racism."

The statement from the group said Click is not the problem; instead, the problem is breaking down systemic oppression at the UM-system level.

at a state university, threatened actual physical violence in order to prevent the press from access to public property.

Her race or politics are irrelevant, and it would be prudent for the student group to distance themselves from her lest they lessen their own credibility and public support.

There really is very little to nothing that mitigates Click's conduct, and much to note that makes it particularly egregious.

We may share some broad political beliefs concerning minority rights and other issues, but she's definitely not on "my side," and her actions do more harm than good to the issues she purports to care about.

Click most certainly does not have my sympathy, her current predicament is well-earned and easily avoidable, and if these students cannot see the obvious and myriad of serious problems with Click, I'm left with little alternative that to assume they actually support the very conduct for which Click has apologized, and thus they lose my support.

For starters, that you don't get a special pass to assault and threaten people just because you have a cause.

Professor (and I don't think she'll have that title much longer) Click wasn't much interested in the "safe space" of Mark Schierbecker and Tim Tai.

Her suspensions is absolutely justified, and branford's comment is insightful.
