Knife found buried at OJ Simpson estate, report
Source: Channel 5 fox news
A knife was reportedly found buried on the estate of football legend and one-time murder suspect, O.J. Simpson, according to TMZ.
The folding buck knife was found by a construction worker on the perimeter of the house while he was demolishing the house in 1998, law enforcement sources tell the celebrity gossip website."There are signs that it in fact had blood on it," said TMZ Executive Producer Harvey Levin.
The worker allegedly gave the knife to a police officer who was patrolling the area, off-duty while working at a movie site, who never turned it in.
The police officer retired earlier this year and told a friend at the Los Angeles Police Department about the knife. That worker told his superiors who demanded the officer hand over the knife The LAPD is secretly investigating. The knife is being tested for hair and fingerprints,

I did not kill my lovely wife.
I did not slash her with a knife.
I did not bonk her on the head.
I did not know that she was dead.
I stayed at home that fateful night.
I took a limo, then took a flight.
The bag I had was just for me.
My bag! My bag! Hey, leave it be!
When I came home, I had a gash.
My hand was cut from broken glass.
I cut my hand on broken glass.
A broken glass did cause that gash.
My friend, he took me for a ride.
All through LA, from side to side.
>From north to south, we took a ride.
But from the cops, we could not hide.
My trial lasted for a year.
A YEAR! A YEAR! Just sitting here.
The DNA, the HEM, the HAW!
The circus-hype the viewers saw!
A YEAR! A YEAR! Just sitting here.
Did you do this awful crime?
Did you do this anytime?
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not, anytime.
Did you take this person's life?
Did you do it with a knife?
I did not do it with a knife.
I did not, could not kill my wife.
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not anytime.
Did you hit her from above?
Did you drop this bloody glove?
I did not hit her from above.
I cannot even wear that glove.
I did not do it with a knife.
I did not, could not, kill my wife.
I did not do this awful crime.
I could not, would not anytime.
The glove you see it does not fit.
The lawyer says you must acquit.
Acquit because the cops all lied.
"Acquit, acquit", the lawyer cried.
The jury came back, verdict in hand.
And silence fell across the land.
Not guilty, not guilty, they did decree.
Not guilty, not guilty, now set him free.
And now I'm free, I can return.
To my house for which I yearn.
And to my family, whom I love.
Now would you please return my glove!!!!

(3,829 posts)Bruno Magli shoes were identified as being worn by the killer. At the time of the trial there was no proof that OJ had such shoes. This photo surfaced later:
In deposition tapes taken just before the civil trial in which the former star football player was found liable for their deaths, Simpson says he didn't like "the look" or "the style" of the shoes, according to ABC News.
"I know that Bruno Magli makes shoes that look like the shoes they had in court that's involved with this case, I would have never worn those ugly-ass shoes," Simpson, who was found not guilty of the murders in criminal court, says in the deposition.
The shoes were a key piece of evidence in the murder case the killer left a bloody size 12 Bruno Magli shoeprint at the scene of the crime. Attorney Daniel Petrocelli notes during the deposition that only 299 pairs of Bruno Magli shoes in that size have ever been sold in the United States.

(1,307 posts)Talk about a massive conspiracy with dozens of police officers "in" on Fuhrman planting evidence against someone the LAPD loved and shielded from the law. Consider the coddling and covering up/minimizing of his domestic violence incidences when they responded to Nicole's calls for help. Which was like 8-10 times, and yet they never took him in to the station (and even let him flee the scene in his car when they responded once) as well as convince Nicole not to press charges. Also consider that OJ was very friendly with police and would regularly have LAPD members, 40 or 50 at a time, to his house, and they were allowed to come and go freely to use his pool and tennis court. The LAPD loved OJ and let him get away with so much shit because he was their fun and super-nice pal.

(19,781 posts)In fact I feel that if cops and prosecutors pull the stuff like they did here, they deserve to lose the case. If they're allowed to get away with it with OJ you know they're going to do it with other, truly innocent people who don't have the means to mount a strong defense.
The real shame of it here is that they probably had enough good evidence, if they'd stuck only to that, to put him away.

(10,499 posts)It's been suggested that the OJ show was a factor in delaying the season premiere of the Americans by two weeks. But others say that it was Keri Russell's pregnancy. Either way, it sucks that we have to wait two extra weeks.
I strongly recommend that you watch the Americans when the new season premieres on FX in 12 days, on Wednesday, March 16 at 10 PM. I truly believe that it is the best show on television. Hopefully the OJ show viewers will see promos for the Americans and decide to tune in.

(36,437 posts)It's probably true - as the prosecution argued at trial - that Simpson dumped most of the evidence (clothes, shoes, etc.) in a garbage can outside LAX on his way to Chicago.
The notion that he would have dumped the shoes and clothes but buried the knife on his property (when, that night?) is just silly. He tossed the knife with the other stuff in the duffell bag. It's making methane in the bottom of a Los Angeles trash pile right now.

There was more then enough evidence to support a Manslaughter conviction, that OJ killed both persons without justification. On the other hand, the evidence that supported a MURDER conviction, i.e. evidence of premeditation, simply did not exist. If the Jury found that OJ had had a good time with with ex-wife that morning (Which was stated in the trial) and thought he could gain her back, and in that belief drove back to her house and saw her with another man and became so angry that he killed them, there is NO premeditation and thus NOT murder. THE DA tried to present evidence of such premeditation but none of it held up.
When OJ's attorney asked the judge to rule that the charge be either reduced to manslaughter OR manslaughter be eliminated as a lesser included offense on the ground the defense for the defenses for both murder and manslaughter conflicted with each other, and the Judge gave that choice to the DA,and the DA decided to to try OJ for Murder not manslaughter, the case was over. The evidence supported Manslaughter, an unlawful killing without premeditation, the evidence did NOT support premeditation and thus did not support a conviction of Murder.
Thus it is the fault of the DA, but it was NOT bad handling of the evidence, but over charging, In most abuse cases where the victim is killed, it is Manslaughter for the abuse that lead to the death is rarely premeditated. I suspect had the DA opt for Manslaughter instead of Murder, OJ attorneys would have had him change his plea to Nolo Contende, i.e. no contest to the charge. A Nolo Contende plea meant he would be treated as if he plead guiltily, but that plea could not be used against him in any subsequent Civil Action. The reason for that, given the evidence, the DA could have come into court in clown outfits and still get a conviction for Manslaughter, THE DA wanted to give a jury a choice convict OJ for murder, or see OJ walk, hoping the Jury given that choice would convict OJ of Murder despite the evidence.
That case is an example of bad prosecution against a well paid and prepared defense team. The DA thought they could get an conviction of Murder on evidence that only supported Manslaughter on the grounds the Jury would see that OJ did the crime and not want him to walk. The problem was the Jury saw the evidence, understood the instructions of the Judge and voted that OJ did not commit MURDER (Manslaughter was NOT an offer in front of them). Bad lawyering by the DA.

(21,046 posts)Sloppy lawyering. Sloppy indicting.
Giving the jury more than one choice would have helped a lot.
Or as the joke goes that we heard in law school: "Did you hear about the lawyer whose client was charged with sodomy? He got it reduced to the lesser included offense of following too closely."
That was the ONLY joke we heard in law school, because law school was Grim World.

But OJ's defense team presented the judge the argument that the defense for either conflicted with each other. With the murder charge intent and premeditation would be the issues, in a manslaughter charge premeditation was not an issue. In a manslaughter case intent is still needed to be shown, but intent to scare someone would have been sufficient. I.e. No need to prove OJ intended to kill the victims, just that OJ had killed them with intent to do some harm.
Shirapo convinced the Judge the two charges were incompatible and one of them had to be dropped. The judge gave that choice to the prosecution who opted for murder. I do abuse work, but PFAs not criminal charges, but keep abreast of other aspects of abuse. In almost all cases of death do to abuse it is manslaughter not murder for killing the victim was NEVER the intent of the abuser. No intent to kill, no premeditation, no murder. On the other hand the abuse that caused the death was intended to cause some harm to the victim and thus enough intent to justify a manslaughter conviction.
Given the choice between murder and manslaughter the DA should have opted for murder, but the DA thought this was the case to get him elected judge, so he decided on murder. The assistant DAs doing the actual trial work also saw this as a high profile case that they could ride to higher positions, thus also agreed with the murder charge. When the jury said it was NOT murder, it goes back blew up in their faces, the DA lost the next election.

(20,044 posts)Having OJ try on the gloves, which had been soaked in blood and probably shrank when they dried, was beyond stupid. You don't introduce evidence when you don't know what it is. They had no idea if the gloves would fit and had him try them on over surgical gloves which made it even harder to put them on. Also, Judge Alito let the trial go on for far too long - 8 months!
