Brother of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers endorses Trump

Source: USA Today

Civil rights activist Charles Evers is endorsing Donald Trump for president, touting what Evers refers to as the current Republican front-runner's business acumen.

"I believe in him first of all because he's a businessman. I think jobs are badly needed in Mississippi," he said.

Evers is the brother of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, who was assassinated in front of his Jackson home in 1963.

When asked about Trump's controversial remarks regarding immigration and an incident Tuesday when 30 black students were reported to have been removed from the candidate's rally in Valdosta, Ga., Evers responded, "I haven't seen any proof of him being a racist."

are the other. (Oddly, they seem to be asking permission a lot less than anyone else, more like a real revolution.) They should be watched, because they just might get their wish.

He said he sees racism in all of us, so he sees the disruptors as critical of his hero, not singled out simply because of color. Apparently, then, he is willing to set aside what others view as racism, to pursue better economic conditions for us, perhaps seeing that as a path to more justice.

It's interesting that Mr. Evers has has the benefit of all that history and seems to see the Repubs as better able to bring jobs, not sell out the workers.

From the link:

...
"Evers added that he also respects Trump for his faith and that he plans to attend Monday's rally in Madison. Evers said that if he has the chance to speak with Trump he wants to pitch bringing a catfish processing plant to Mississippi.

"Our catfish is shipped to China and brought back for us to buy. Put a catfish farm here.""
...

Sounds like the noise about shutting down imports and re-negotiating contracts may have helped get his attention.

According to USA Today, Charles Evers is a longtime Republican. He became a Republican in 1980 and endorsed Ronald Reagan. Considering the campaign Ronald Reagan ran in 1980 it should not be surprising that Evers endorsed Donald Trump. It could be argued that Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign had far more racially charged language toward black people than Donald Trump's current campaign.

(Based on his on claims) Trump has kept pace with the S&P 500 index from 1982 to present:

Nicely done, but not impressive.

Exposing How Donald Trump Really Made His Fortune: Inheritance from Dad and the Government's Protection Mostly Did the Trick: Inherited wealth from his father (who benefited from US government largesse), cushy education, bankruptcy protection, and tax money spent on regulating the stock market, among other things:

That's what I heard, no idea if it's true.

As to Charles Evers, people aren't responsible for their relatives politics. I have Republican relatives (although they are all planning to vote for Bernie.)
