Cliven Bundy makes initial federal court appearance in Vegas

Source: yahoo news

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The renegade rancher at the center of a states'-versus-federal rights fight made his first appearance in custody before a U.S. judge in Las Vegas on Friday, but wasn't asked to enter a plea.

Similar federal court hearings were held in Idaho and Utah, a day after authorities rounded up 12 people in five states, raising to 19 the number accused of inciting and leading an armed insurrection in April 2014 to stop a roundup of cows from public land near Cliven Bundy's ranch.

Bundy, 69, stood with a deputy federal public defender at his side as he heard the 16 charges against him including conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States, assault on a federal officer, threatening a federal officer, obstruction of justice, interference with interstate commerce by extortion and several firearms charges.

Asked by the judge if he could afford to hire an attorney, Bundy said he hadn't had a chance to talk with anyone about that.

In reality, it's a "Cliven Bundy vs. Paying for Stuff" Fight.

While this is just the PR sticker for what is really an attempt to steal public property for personal enrichment, I notice that many lazy reporters describe it improperly like this.

This disgusting family makes me sick. They are like parasites.
Great that the judge wants him to prove he needs a public defender. I hope Cliven and the boys are all incarcerated for the maximum amount of time and all their property seized and sold.
I do worry and have concern for any and all innocent animals that might be in their possession and I hope they are and will be cared for.

But it has to be done.
And if there are any neglected animals, then tack on charges of "animal abuse" and add some more years to their sentences.
The Feds and the courts have to send a real clear message and NOW. Throw the book at these smug, self-entitled assholes.

Cattle were allowed to wander and graze. If the animal went on your property, the owner was responsible for damage.

describes his cattle as "wild, mean and ornery."

Never in all my born days did I ever expect the word "ornery" to wind up in a federal indictment, but it's in there.
