Michigan mayor says he was nearly kicked out of Dem debate
Source: The Hill
The sergeant-at-arms said, The people that run this want you ejected, they dont want you here, Fouts said.
When asked if it was Wasserman Schultz making the reques, Fouts said, The security guy said, Dont say I said it.
Fouts, an Independent mayor who attended both the Republican and Democratic debates in his home state, commented on the noticeable differences between the two events.
The Democratic debate is totally controlled by Hillarys [sic] good friend DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Fouts wrote in a Facebook post. No commentary is allowed by the audience. Particularly if you are cheering Bernie Sanders. Persons who do not adhere to Hillarys [sic] rules are threatened with expulsion.
He also said the Democratic Partys debate process borders on totalitarian control and in an interview on Monday, he said Wasserman Schultz should resign.
This is not the first time fellow Democrats have been publicly critical of Wasserman Schultz and how shes handled the partys debates. Critics have accused the DNC chairwoman of limiting the number of debates in order to aid Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

(15,480 posts)Then there's Hillary's highly overpaid daughter - paid $600,000 a year by NBC for a part-time broadcasting job for which she had zero professional training or experience.
It's so HARD for Clinton supporters to throw stones, what with being in so many glass houses and all.
The one HRC supporter with the chutzpah to show up in this thread (post 10) whines about the mayor's long time assistant getting a "huge pay raise". But the link included refers only to a $5,000 pay raise.
OMG! $5,000. That obviously did not bother the voters of Warrendale, who elected him to hismost recent term with EIGHT FIVE PERCENT OF THE VOTE! Neither Huma nor Chelsea would cross the street for a lousy $5,000.

I've often thought how very beneficial it would be to our entire society if we could take the top 1% and let them be working poor for a year. They can be nickel and dimed, have rationed or nonexistent healthcare, be uncertain of housing and transportation and live in constant fear of getting sick or having some other problem that causes them to lose their shitty job. I wonder if any of them would know what to do if they did not have the money to pay bills one month.

(31,700 posts)Fouts was outraged by the evening. He called for Wasserman Schultz to step down in the Monday interview. After the conversation with security, Fouts said he returned to his seat and took extra care to be quiet.
I was even careful when I clapped, he said. Im sorry that I offended her with my enthusiasm.
Clashes between the Sanders campaign and its supporters and the DNC have been routine throughout the primary. When the debate calendar was first announced, Sanders supporters were among those who shouted down Wasserman Schultz during a speech at the New Hampshire Democratic state convention. When the DNC suspended Sanders campaign access to the partys online voter file following a break of Clinton data by Sanders campaign aides, the Sanders campaign filed a lawsuit and accused Wasserman Schultz of doing Clintons bidding.
Top DNC officials, including the chair, have pledged neutrality throughout the primary process, saying that the party takes no sides.
Fouts said he didnt think the quiet rule at the Democratic debate was very democratic. He prefers things a little looser, if not as loose as the Republicans do it.
Frankly I was appalled by what I saw and what happened, he said.

On the side, the CBS Nightly News...blah, blah, blah...and then they showed a chart with the Hill's vs. Bernie's delegate count...yup, there it was in parenthesis at the top of their chart, includes super delagates. And we also now know that is making it appear that the count is like a landslide for her.
They also blathered about how Bernie was attacking her over NAFTA...Bernie says about 850,000 jobs lost BUT CBS had an "expert" (unnamed of course) that was quoted...job losses were very negligible.
I call bullshit on that.
Divernan

(14,570 posts)This nation did in fact lose around 850K jobs to NAFTA - the good kind, ones that have benefits and actually offer some reasonable economic security, ones you can raise a family on.
These jobs have been replaced by lower wage service positions that offer little in the way of benefits and nothing in the way of economic security.
They need to trot out this 'expert,' who can then be trashed on the internet by people who actually know.

(92,136 posts)Of course the reason why he wants to divert attention could be this also:
"Warren Mayor Jim Fouts made a national TV appearance last night on CNN at the Democratic debate. Notably, he walked in late with his young female secretary. Fouts has denied a dating relationship with his secretary and denied that her huge pay raises had anything to do with their personal relationship. Fouts and his "date" scored premium seats at the debate after his high-profile endorsement of socialist Bernie Sanders."

HEADLINE: Warren Mayor James Fouts wins third term
The Detroit News 11:15 p.m. EST November 3, 2015
And voters elected Fouts with 85 percent of the vote compared to challenger Karen Sprangers 15 percent, according to unofficial results.
Fouts has held the post for two, four-year terms in the states third-largest city. Spranger had filed an unsuccessful recall petition against Fouts in 2014. This would be Fouts third and final four-year term under Warrens term limits. City voters also selected six council members, a clerk and treasurer.
Carey Gordon made the trip Tuesday to the Fitzgerald Recreation Center specifically to support Fouts. Gordon said he appreciates Fouts efforts to support General Motors Warren Technical Center.
For as long as hes been there, hes done a good job, Gordon said of Fouts.

The proposal would change the limit from a maximum of three, 4-year terms to five, 4-year terms. If approved by voters, the change would cover Mayor Jim Fouts, who was re-elected in November for a third 4-year term.

No, I'm not from Warrendale, but I'll go with the 85%, as well as multiple endorsements from the Detroit Free Press.
I get it that there is a small minority who hate him. You just keep hanging with those 15%. I see that "complete loon" is the phrase his haters have agreed to use, as per post 38.
On edit: correction. It's Warren, not Warrendale.
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts).... and Warren was ground zero. The city has a LONG history of horrible racial politics and Fouts tapped into it and has grown strong as the city went from 98-99% white to approximately 80% white.
Your post really indicates (by the way the city is Warren NOT Warrendale) that you really don't have a clue.
It is odd that anyone that knows nothing (and your posts make it clear that you are totally ignorant about the politics of Michigan's third largest city) of the local politics would dig in on this.
Divernan
(15,480 posts)Well, apparently, politics does indeed make strange bedfellows, and Bernie has a strong, broad appeal.
And I, like progressives all around the country, am digging in to Michigan politics because we believe Bernie will be far, far better than Hillary at stemming the flow of money to the top and to funding MIC and regime change, and instead addressing the crying needs for social services and infrastructure of all citizens in the whole country.
I suggest you look at the big picture:
Clinton represents timid, token incrementalism at a time when the American people are in desperate need of bold transformational change.

Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech. In rhetoric, it is also sometimes known as auxesis (lit. "growth" . In poetry and oratory, it emphasizes, evokes strong feelings, and creates strong impressions. As a figure of speech, it is usually not meant to be taken literally.
It isn't always easy to identify (especially on the Internet) but "crimes against democracy" being charged against the Chair of the Democratic National Committee is intended to be ironic inference as well.

Raise the tax rate to 75% and Goldman Sachs will still pay HRC $1 million and she will net..............Wait for it........................$250K.
The same goes for Chelsea, or any other political animal.
We need to raise the taxation rates on income barely earned. Only then will we come to understand the benefit of an earned dollar.
