Kyle Odom, the former Marine suspected of shooting Idaho pastor Tim Remington on Sunday, was arrested Tuesday evening outside the White House, according to Coeur d’Alene Police and the Secret Service.

The Secret Service said in a statement that Odom “threw unknown material over the south fence line at the White House Complex.”

He was immediately taken into custody.

The shooting gained national attention, in part because Remington had prayed with Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz at a campaign rally in Coeur d’Alene on Saturday.

It's about 2500 miles by freeway from here to Washington, DC, and you KNOW he drove the whole way; either Amtrak or the bus would have put him in DC on Wednesday and the airlines would have picked him up in Spokane when he tried going through the TSA checkpoint.

They aren't willing to comment on how security failed to notice him in BOISE, buying a ticket and boarding ...

My teenage son and I were detained at the Miami airport for long enough that we missed our flight and therefore our connecting flight, and therefore the bus to our final destination. The reason? My son's toothpaste tube was not regulation size. The TSA agent was a real asshole about it but I could do nothing, believing that he could make things even worse if he wanted to. Meanwhile, an actual criminal boards and flies with no problems.

The 21-page manifesto, which authorities say Odom sent to his parents as well as several Idaho television stations, is a window into what he was thinking.

According to Coeur d’Alene police, Odom has a history of mental illness. In his manifesto, he outlined his path to Sunday’s shooting in clear but increasingly paranoid prose. ... He admitted to plotting to shoot Remington. He also claimed that the pastor was part of a vast alien conspiracy to enslave the human race — a conspiracy that Odom believed extended to Congress.

On Tuesday night, Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White said that Odom drove from his home town to Boise, Idaho, where he boarded a flight to the nation’s capital. White said it was not clear how Odom was allowed to travel, but he might have boarded before he was identified as a suspect.
