Arab American News Office Wards Off Hammer-Wielding Intruders in Michigan

Two men allegedly tried to smash their way into the offices of the Arab American News in Dearborn, Michigan, early this morning, according to a post on the media outlet's website.

At least 11 workers were in the office, working on this week's issue, when "multiple bangs were heard coming from the back of the building," the post says.

"Staff members originally believed it to be gunshots, as the backdoor had been damaged by what appeared to be a bullet hole. The staff immediately rushed to a safe area of the office and the police were contacted.”

Surveillance video, seen by ABC News, shows two men lingering near the office minutes before they allegedly attempted to break through the door.

Here we've got friends with Irish surnames who are Muslims and Arab Americans who are Roman Catholic. That's not counting all the various combinations of heritage, faith, backgrounds, creeds, races and whatever. And they all love each other. Wish the rest of the nation appreciated what this special place is, Detroit.

Could just be 'entrepreneurs'. Really weird that they would do that with all the bright lights and people seeing them right from the window. And the hammers. What the fuck. Could be paid muscle. Could be young black men that don't like ME people. So odd.

Coming from the Metro-Detroit area, I can tell you that relations between black people and Arab/Chaldeans is a fuzzy one. There are many Arab/Chaldean businesses (gas stations, liquor stores, groceries, etc) in mostly black areas. Both groups are cordial but there's also some animosity between the two; mostly because the business owners live in the mostly white suburbs and guard themselves between the glass walls away from their customers - who again are mostly black. There's also been instances of these businesses discriminating against black people as well.

I have heard several black family members and friends say the same kind of stuff about Muslims than your average Trump supporter. Sad but true.

This incident more than likely may be less of a hate crime and more of a robbery or invasion though.
