FIFA seeks money from convicted member in corruption cases

Source: sporting news

FIFA started legal proceedings in an attempt to recoup millions of dollars pocketed by 41 corrupt officials and other organizations.

Former president Sepp Blatter and vice president Michel Platini are banned from soccer following a widespread corruption scandal. Former officials including Chuck Blazer, Jack Warner and Jeffrey Webb are under indictment in an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Also on Wednesday, the sport's world governing body for the first time admitted bribery was involved in decisions on World Cup sites.

FIFA is taking action against those involved in an attempt to reclaim the "tens of millions of dollars" taken through illegal schemes. The Associated Press pegged the number at $190 million, according to a 22-page document. Restitution is being sought from individuals convicted in corruption cases.
