A hundred Chinese boats encroach in Malaysian waters: minister
Source: Reuters
About 100 Chinese fishing boats have been detected encroaching in Malaysia's waters in the disputed South China Sea, Malaysia's state news agency and a coastguard official said on Friday.
The reported encroachment on Thursday is the latest action by Chinese vessels to raise concern in Southeast Asia, where four countries object to China's claim to virtually the whole of the South China Sea.
Malaysia's national security minister Shahidan Kassim said assets from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the navy have been sent to the area near the Luconia Shoals to monitor the situation, the Bernama news agency reported.
Shahidan did not specify what type of Chinese vessels had been spotted but a Maritime Enforcement Agency official said they were fishing boats guarded by two Chinese coastguard vessels.

Bernie is coming along, but before this was always oriented (so to speak) almost exclusively on domestic policy. Trump only knows that China is where his branded merchandise is manufactured.

Thanks to the Chinese , the government of the Philippines is starting to look favorably on the U.S. Navy again.

(3,212 posts)"A quarter of a century ago, it was the United States that the Philippines was fed up with. Angry at rowdy American troops and nursing a lingering sense of colonization, Manila ordered the U.S. military out of Subic Bay, then its largest overseas naval base.
But now it's China that's in Manila's doghouse, as Beijing increasingly asserts control over South China Sea waters and islets that also are claimed by the Philippines.
Washington is being welcomed back with open arms here at Subic Bay."

Makes for interesting reading.

I recommend print media. I still read the Los Angeles Times, which at least borders the Pacific.
You can bet that President Obama, born and raised in the Pacific, is aware of this stuff. You can also bet that when the crafted the TPP, China was very much on his mind.

(3,212 posts)Yeah, it does make for very interesting reading.
They intend to control the waters, and claim fishing and mineral rights from these man-made islands. I certainly don't want to get in a war with Chinese, but how much longer will the world allow this to go on?
