Police break up gathering of right-wing protesters at Brussels memorial
Source: BBC
Riot police backed by water cannon vehicles were called to the Place de la Bourse-Beursplein in the center of the Belgian capital, Brussels, on Sunday to keep right-wing groups calling themselves "fascists against terrorism" away from demonstrators wanting to show solidarity following the deadly attacks on Tuesday.
British broadcaster BBC said members of the right-wing groups had approached and harassed Muslim women wearing headscarves, and at one stage cleared the steps in the square of the demonstrators paying their respects to attack victims.
Police used the water cannon to disperse the right-wing protesters.
Authorities had originally asked for no demonstrations to take place in Brussels over Easter, and a march organized for Saturday was postponed by the organizers in response to the plea. Police officials feared that such gatherings could put the police force under too much strain.

(23,091 posts)Booked the trip of our lifetime 6 months ago, had no idea things would explode like this. So, really hoping and praying things calm down in the next few weeks.
I participated in plenty of peaceful marches against the Vietnam War when I was a teenager, but have never been near any violence and really don't want to start now.

Glad you made it out of the riot.
