Secret Service: We’re not allowing firearms at the Republican National Convention

Source: Washington Post

The Secret Service on Monday quashed the hopes of gun rights advocates who were pushing for the open carry of firearms to be allowed at this summer's Republican National Convention.

An online petition to allow open carry of firearms at the event rapidly gained signatures and attention in the past week, applying pressure to pro-gun Republican officials and presidential contenders to walk the walk when it comes to guns. But on Monday, the Secret Service, said it has decided only to allow law enforcement personnel to carry firearms at the event

"Title 18 United States Code Sections 3056 and 1752, provides the Secret Service authority to preclude firearms from entering sites visited by our protectees, including those located in open-carry states," Secret Service spokesman Robert K. Hoback said in a statement. "Only authorized law enforcement personnel working in conjunction with the Secret Service for a particular event may carry a firearm inside of the protected site."

They're not patriots and, except for Trump and Cruz, none of them qualify as tyrants either. Unless you're going to amend that shit to "the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots, tyrants and total assholes," you'll simply have to let them be.

I have no problem with leaving my gun at home in the safe or in my car while I am attending a gathering that has adequate armed security.

If a incident were to happen that involved an armed attacker I am more than willing to let trained security handle it. If a number of civilians pulled their weapons it would only complicate matters exponentially.

I shudder to think what might have happened. Even I don't hate Republicans that much.

On a more serious note, I witnessed the aftermath of some asshole who managed to get his hands on a gun: one dead 15 year old kid. This at a Metro station in DC, in broad daylight. There was apparently an argument and the hothead pulled out his gun and shot.

Before you ask whether the gun was legal or not, I'll say that I don't give a rat's ass whether it was or not. I don't think it makes a damn bit of difference. Lots of people are capable of being hotheads, legal gun owners or not.

They do not walk the talk. They want school kids to have guns, everyone everywhere, to have guns, and have them out in the open. Yet when it comes to one of their own conventions, well they are happy to have the Secret Service take the heat for them. Too bad, was looking forward to the show. No reason to watch now.

Trump and Cruz should turn down their secret service protection immediately! They should stand up for the second amendment!
