(27,247 posts)The epicenter for today's earthquake was hundreds of miles south-southwest of the March 11 epicenter. There was a bit of shaking here in the Tokyo Metro Area, which lasted for about 30 to 40 seconds, registering up to a 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale (meaning things could have fallen off shelves)

(646 posts)I live near Tokyo, and I can definitely say that this earthquake woke me up (it was 2 PM) :-/
A bit of shaking that lasted a while. I put on some pants, just in case, and immediately looked up where it happened.
The big Tohoku Earthquake in March was much worse than this, but people who lived through it are all expecting the next big one to hit, regardless of whether it will or not.

(2,749 posts)I highly doubt anything that deep will have any sort of impact. I've been keeping daily track of earthquakes all over the world for over 10 years and I've never seen anything that deep do any sort of damage or cause a tsunami. Has to be shallow too, as well as big in magnitude.
