NY Authorities Say UPS Knowingly Shipped Untaxed Cigarettes

Source: ABC News

Authorities said Tuesday they have proof UPS knowingly shipped about 700,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes from Native American reservations to consumers and smoke shops from 2010 to 2014, even though they had agreed more than a decade ago to stop.

New York's attorney general and New York City's law department sued the Atlanta-based shipping giant in 2014, alleging that it ignored clear indications that some of its clients were shipping cigarettes and should have done more to stop the shipments. The city and state allege in their $180 million federal lawsuit that cheap cigarettes increased smoking by New Yorkers while costing $29.7 million in lost tax revenue

but instead one of stores that are branded with the name UPS Store. A couple of friends worked at the counter at UPS here in Seattle, and they quit over being forced to ship guns. Their boss made them touch boxes with guns in them!

Must be easy to get a good job in Seattle
Are guns the only things these 2 folks dont like? Because UPS likely ships a lot of things many find "undesirable"!!

Poe's law

Poe's law is an Internet adage which states that, without a clear indicator of the author's intent, parodies of extreme views will be mistaken by some readers or viewers for sincere expressions of the parodied views.

Okay, I'm stumped.

After all, Eric Garner was being harassed for selling untaxed cigarettes, because the job of the police is clearly to collect taxes on cigarettes, no matter what the cost.

(My post actually has nothing to do with UPS, and is really leveled at NY state, where collecting taxes on cigarettes is paramount!)

has a job to do. You wouldn't ask the tax authorities to carry your stuff from A to B.
Why should UPS employees to become tax agents? Or, honestly, give a crap about the problem? Any harm being done with having untaxed cigarettes is really in the abstract. A bomb, guns, hazardous materials going through the system can cause damage to people and property. Someone that can buy a pack of cigarettes for $3 instead of $15? That's not really what I would call a problem. Or, more accurately, MY problem.
