WASHINGTON Despite progress made on gender equality, much work remains: That was the bottom line from a first-ever women's summit held Tuesday.
The inaugural White House United State of Women Summit did not shy away from hot-button topics such as campus sex assault, which has been in the national spotlight with high-profile cases at Stanford University and beyond.
"We have to take off the social blinders that make it so easy for people to overlook violence rather than confront it, Vice President Biden said.
Annie Clark, executive director and co-founder of End Rape on Campus, a non-profit that works to prevent campus sexual violence and support survivors, said that rape cannot be viewed in a vacuum, separate from the societal conditions that lead to sexual violence.....

Just goes to show how much work there is to be done on behalf of women's issues and rights.

(1,820 posts)First summit. 2016 and it is the first Women's Summit shows how little we care about women and equality! I have lost all faith in america where we slap men on the wrist and say nothing about out allies wh punish women for being raped!
