Game Over: The Sanders Campaign Is Not Trying To Win Over Clinton Superdelegates
By Sean Colarossi on Thu, Jun 16th, 2016 at 8:31 pm
Bernie Sanders campaign has no plans to try to flip superdelegates to his side.
After months of promising to fight all the way to the Democratic convention in Philadelphia, the Sanders campaign now admits that they are not trying to convince the all-important superdelegates to support the Vermont senator. Campaign manager Jeff Weaver said there are no plans to do so in the near future either.
In an interview on With All Due Respect, Weaver said that Sanders is technically still a candidate, but there is no effort to call superdelegates and convince them to reverse their support of presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton.

(83 posts)"I will do everything possible to defeat Trump"? What are you saying, that Bernie has failed to do something specific that you think makes the phrase "everything possible" a lie?

(83 posts)The speech was mostly about continuing the fight beyond and outside of this primary contest. And defeating Trump. My favorite part was the appeal to voters to become more active in state and local politics, running for office and joining party committees and so forth.
I think that the convention will be the platform for that appeal, and a way to get the party to embrace some of the ideas Bernie has championed, which clearly have broad support amongst Democratic voters (even if a majority prefer Clinton). He doesn't need to gain any delegates to have that platform.

(11,573 posts)They tried and failed to gin up a "contested" convention. Now Sanders is starting to lose the supers that did support him. He's bleeding away his influence by buckets.

(1,968 posts)It's too bad that so many have sat on the sidelines for so long and now want to complain.
Sure, policies need to be changes, but stomping ones feet like I've seen so many do isn't going to get the job done.

(2,412 posts)Stop with the sports analogy already. This is not a game. People's lives depend on the outcomes of this election. This is about who gets health care or education and who does not. This is about who gets a decent living and has a functional family and who does not.
It is only a "game" for those who are very comfortable.
You are right. And they don't even get it.
It is life and death.

(14 posts)by a majority - plus 13%. Don't kid yourselves even without superdelegates, it was a landslide.
Also, there is nothing to negotiate. The loser does not DICTATE the end terms... the winner graciously offers to add some items "she" is comfortable with.
Nothing about that Sanders infomercial last night indicated he was giving up or supporting the winner of the contest or being a good team player with that shiny new membership card he has.
The longer this drags on, the more people will abandon Bernie Sanders. The time for his negotiation was at the meeting on Tuesday. Bernie is going to burn his Senate influence next. Lifelong DEMOCRATS won't tolerate his larger than life head and his perceived damage to the Nominee and the Party itself.
I'm sure DEMOCRATS will reconsider allowing a non-member "outsider" to come inside next time.
Your call Senator... Time to do the right and respectable thing, concede, drop-out, support, & unify. Because if HC loses a close Naderesque type election, that history he spoke of last night, will not be the one he envisioned.

(15,366 posts)strategy in any event ... especially because any flipping of SDs seems to be working to Hillary's benefit. So their latest strategy is to get rid of SDs altogether.
Even if ...
a) that could not affect the 2016 Presidential primary selection process; it could only apply to future elections
b) Hillary has still won the majority of pledged delegates (by hundreds) as well as the popular vote (by millions) and would thus still have a majority of delegates - and popular votes - as a result of the primary process
c) this is a rule change that DNC members would have to vote on; the leadership cannot summarily decide it
Do Bernie & Co. even know how to think logically? Do they even understand democracy? Based on their positions, apparently not.
mdbl
(4,973 posts)don't wash away the problems i have with shortcomings in some of Clinton's actions and changes in her views on issues over the last 15 years. Her inevitable nomination doesn't make that any better. Your little cartoon doesn't garner much respect for you positions.
i think your use of 'won' is stretching the definition. it's pretty clear the fix was in way prior to her even declaring, and the party machinery in each and every state saw to it that her candidacy would be a fait accompli.
democracy??
the rule change will occur at the DNC rules committee level; many members and voters have openly called for getting rid of SDs, but with barney frank at the helm of that committee, we'll see how far that goes.
democracy???
from your comment, i'd say you translate 'democracy' to mean 'whoever gets the most votes, wins!' your logic appears to be based solely on 'numbers,' my friend, a dangerous fallacy (see godel, theorems 1 and 2; see also, american sports mentality). fuhgeddabout the SDs endorsing before all candidates had declared, and before a single vote had been cast in any primary or caucus; fuhgeddabout manipulation of the press and orchestration of stories, memes, and incidents (see manufacturing consent); fuhgeddabout stripping voters from the voter roles, shrinking polling places, messing with ballots, likely tinkering with software, and generally suppressing the vote; fuhgeddabout not just putting a thumb on the scale, but outright jumping on it with all fours.
democracy?????
i believe the word you're searching for is oligarchy, hegemonic empire type.

(407 posts)Right from the beginning the snark and condescension I've witnessed from the Hillary side has far outweighed anything they have tried to label Bernie and his followers with.
I'm pretty tired of the word presumptive.

(145,086 posts)No super delegate would flip for Sanders
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)And there will be an overwhelming number of Super delegates voting for Hillary at the convention. Hillary released her delegates in 2008 and they voted for Obama.

(212 posts)1. Bernie complains about supers, the Hillside laughs and says supers are part of the Democratic Way.
2. Bernie says, "OK, then we'll go after supers," then the Hillside complains he's a hypocrite.
3. Bernie announces, "OK, we won't go after the supers," the Hillside announces the Sander's campaign is over.
So this looks more like a case of, if Bernie says the grass is green, the Hillside announces it's really blue.
