Multiple people stabbed at neo-Nazi event outside Capitol in Sacramento

Source: LA Times

Multiple people were stabbed Sunday outside the Capitol in Sacramento after clashes between neo-Nazis and counter-demonstrators, officials said.

The Sacramento Fire Department described the incident as a “mass casualty event” and said it was treating patients. A public information officer said on Twitter that at least five people were rushed to hospitals, some with critical injuries.

A neo-Nazi group had planned an event at the site for several weeks, and there was an effort on social media for others to protests against them.

<SNIP>

TWP {Traditionalist Workers Party}, formed in January of this year as the political wing of the Traditionalist Youth Network (TYN), an identitarian-inspired umbrella group that aims to indoctrinate high school and college students into white nationalism.

According to the TWP website, “TradWorker is less about the candidates and campaigns than it is about building relationships of loyalty and support at the neighborhood and community level.” The site goes on to say, “Our mission is defending faith, family, and folk against the politicians and oligarchs who are running America into the ground. We intend to achieve that goal by building a nationwide network of grassroots local leaders who will lead Americans toward a peaceful and prosperous future free from economic exploitation, federal tyranny, and anti-Christian degeneracy.”

Such language, disingenuously cloaked in claims of love for one’s “own people” as opposed to hatred for anyone, is typical from TWP’s virulently racist and anti-Semitic parent organization.

My sister lives in LA and she said local news there was reporting that a large group of counter protesters stole a bunch of the Nazis flags and then then all heck broke loose. The people who were stabbed early in the chaos were the Nazis. Not sure if any new fights that might have broken out where the counter protesters were stabbed. But I guess it's possible some protesters could have also been hurt as well

But reports are that several counter protesters showed up with bats and other weapons and perhaps some have knives. Skin heads are known to be cowards and while they might have been armed with knives it is just as likely they got stabbed by the counter protesters who outnumbered them btw. When all hell breaks loose anything can happen.

And no I am not condoning violence. But if a white supremacist were to walk into a black congregation and for example shout "Fuck All You N####s" and then got their asses beat I would not be at all surprised or feel any empathy for them. If any skin heads here were stabbed then police should do their jobs and arrest the people who committed the stabbing. That is their job not mine

This is not good news. The idea behind the First Amendment is to let idiots expose themselves as such by allowing them to make fools of themselves in public. Physically attacking people for speech just gains more sympathy for the speaker and makes the attackers look like idiots.

You are right. This is how really bad things get started.

Unless in defense from violence, it can't be condoned. Whoever started this is at fault, and speaking your beliefs isn't "starting" anything.

There's something to be said for old-fashioned civics classes that teach the basic principles of our system. I had one class in 8th grade and one in 12th. It would never have occurred to me to become violent toward someone who said something that I didn't like. Now, it seems that no one will stand up and explain how the system works.

as a counter-protester at one of these events. These Nazi types are known for their violence and they thrive on it. Also, it gives more publicity to their hate. Stay away! Let them hold their futile events.

Law enforcement hates these things. They have to protect the Nazis, and all the others who show up. The extra police protection costs the taxpayers a lot of money. Stay home and find other ways to show your support for increased diversity in our country.

You can say, "oh, it's only 50 Nazi assholes. Just ignore 'em and don't give 'em the attention they want". So you do that.

But then the next Nazi rally has 100 people, and you do the same thing.

Then the next one has 250 people. Same non-response, and now there is nobody challenging their message at all.

"Maybe if nobody is challenging the message, the message isn't such a bad idea", some dumb dumbs will think.

Then the next rally has 1000 people, and see where this is going?

60. I do not think violence is the answer.
Sun Jun 26, 2016, 10:22 PM
Jun 2016

I really wish more people in America and throughout the world would actually go and read about Gandhi and what he accomplished - and how.

One thing to consider though, is how angry the general populace must be if things are getting to this point. Perhaps we should ask ourselves why. Think of your co workers, friends, families. There's a lot of people suffering. We have hunger on a truly massive scale, homelessness that is simply unacceptable, gun violence in the streets every single day. We have people working 80 hours a week making less than eight dollars an hour. We have people who are dying because they cannot get health insurance, or their medications, or the treatment they need for their illnesses.

We have a sadly deeply underfunded educational system, a pretty broken legal system, crumbling infrastructure. A social safety net that is catching fewer people with every passing year...

So when these racist, ignorant asshats come out in to the open to stir up more shit and suffering for those who are already facing it... anger, even rage, is a very normal reaction. Does it justify the violence? No. It is counter-productive in that it simply encourages the cycle to continue, every incident like this will likely breed more hate as it tends to grow when you feed it the same.

We should also, perhaps, not make the mistake of underestimating the potential damage this kind of thing can do. This is what happened today... what will happen tomorrow? How do we stop things like this from happening again? How to we defuse the anger in this Country that has grown to such a toxic level?

In my opinion... if we abandon the war on drugs, perhaps we can begin a righteous war against poverty, instead. If we stop spending so much money on military projects that never bare fruit, perhaps we could instead invest that money into our education... where we can teach our kids about people like Gandhi and what they accomplished.

The answer is never to meet ignorance, hate and cruelty with violence. Self defense is one thing - and I am not a pacifist. However, no matter how despicable someone's point of view may be, no matter how hateful the venom that comes from their mouths... it does not give us the right to attack them in the street. It does not give one the right to attempt to kill them. Minds change - the minds of neo nazis, KKK members - and so on. They change through education, through enlightenment, through the power of genuine realization and rehabilitation. Beating the crap out of them, however, or stabbing them... encourages the kind of message they want to spread.
