Ivanov charged with aggravated murder of 3 teens in Mukilteo

Source: Everett Herald

EVERETT — Snohomish County prosecutors on Tuesday charged a University of Washington student with three counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder for Saturday’s shootings at Mukilteo house party.

Allen Christopher Ivanov and Bui used to date. Ivanov, 19, allegedly told police that he hunted Bui down at the party because he was jealous and angry that she was dating other guys. He said he’d broken up with Bui about two months ago.

The suspect also described how in recent days he’d purchased a Ruger semiautomatic rifle and an extra magazine. The assault-style weapon is similar in appearance to an AR-15. Ivanov told the detective that he’d purchased the rifle about a week before and planned to use it for target shooting and in a gun safety class.

Ivanov allegedly told the detective how he’d driven to the party and spotted Bui with another guy. He returned to his car, read the instruction manual for the rifle, loaded the weapon and crept near the living room windows, according to the report, which was filed in Everett District Court.

A perfect storm of testosterone-fueled, wounded male pride, murderous impulse, and near-instant access to semi-automatic weaponry. Now he's going to spend the rest of his life - 60-odd years - in prison, at taxpayer expense, and for what? A minute of revenge against a woman who refused to be his possession.

He was a law-abiding gun owner for a week. What a waste. What a horror for all the parents and friends. What a perfectly pointless American tragedy.

this was not an isolated loner but rather a popular student who had lots of friends (some of whom he killed). Girls were attracted to him and he was the one who dumped his girlfriend. He was upset she did not jump when he said he made a mistake and wanted her back.

You can join the Army at 18 and in some cases, younger. I joined at 17

are stored securely at all times other than marksmanship training and field exercises. And in field exercises, armed soldiers are in possession of either blank ammunition, or no ammunition at all.

When I was in Basic Training, we had two solid weeks of rifle safety training before we were permitted to fire our weapons.

is it something that RKBA activists are trying to rectify? seems like they would consider it unconstitutional.

That law was enacted way before my time. If a younger person really wants a handgun, his parents can gift it to him.

No one is trying to change it; virtually no one is complaining.

There is nothing unconstitutional about it. All our constitutional rights have limits.

if you are legally an adult at 18 then you should be able to enjoy all the privileges of being an adult.

A very different weapon produced a similar body count. Think it might be time to discuss easy access to knives? Perhaps a waiting period would have saved these lives.

Of the type in the report I posted. That, and easy access. Perhaps if you are so concerned about public safety, you should destroy the kitchen knives in your possession and replace them with short and blunted types. After all, culinary experts in the UK have stated long, pointed kitchen knives are not any more useful. Step up, be an example!

he used a semi-automatic rifle that he didn't even know how to load until just before he shot 4 people with it.

i'll take my risks with knife violence - I believe the number of deaths in each incident will be, on average, lower.
