Hillary Clinton personally delivers big boost to Wasserman Schultz
Source: The Sun-Sentinel
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton declared her enthusiastic support Tuesday for U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, detouring her campaign to personally deliver her seal of approval.
"I'm here today with a very simple message: I can't think of anyone who [more] deserves your support for re-election, starting with the primary on August 30th, than my friend Debbie. And I am committed to doing whatever I can to support her as she returns to the Congress with your support," Clinton told about 50 people at Wasserman Schultz's campaign headquarters in Davie. "Please do everything you can to make sure Debbie has a resounding victory on August 30th."
Clinton's stop at Wasserman Schultz's campaign office came at the end a two-day campaign swing through Florida and three weeks to the day before Wasserman Schultz faces the first-ever primary challenge of her congressional career.
The presidential nominee's involvement in the Broward/Miami-Dade County congressional primary is personal and political.

I really want Tim Canova to win this race.

(170 posts)Considering all the controversy around dws, the best thing Hillary could have done was stay neutral.
This was a dumb move by an overall savvy politician

(449 posts)But tactically, this can only expose's Clinton's flank to the accusation that she and DWS coordinated to "rig" the primary (Trump-speak, not mine). And if Canova wins, the media can run with the "Florida voters repudiate Clinton" meme.
I would not have gone there.

(28,017 posts)50% of the gen.pop. does not like or trust her. The best thing she has going for her (on top of her experience) is the nature of her opponent. My take on this is it is merely a wash. No advantage, no disadvantage.
It does show that Hillary is loyal to her friends. In the abstract, I am glad to see that. It is just that I really cannot stand DWS.

I do have to say this about the GoP they take care of their allies. Scooter libby may have been sent to jail but he was communicated pretty fast and set up with a fat paying, low-coverage job.
But honestly her loyalty to even semi corrupt friends is what is causing her negatives!
I wish she hadn't done this. it's already hard enough voting for her w/o this kind of crap making it harder!

(14,167 posts)This is why she refuses to endorse qualified Democrats in Florida over her Republican pals Lincoln Díaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. They carved out the 23rd for her and I think she is content to let Florida be run into the ground by Republicans as long as she has her personal piece of power.
She's awful and I hope she's replaced with a real Democrat. There's a reason they call her Debt Trap Debbie.

(15,512 posts)than first-timer Canova. Also, Aug 30 is awfully late for a primary.

(23,325 posts)Clinton still gets my vote. She's preferable to Trump.
But, damn.

(1,574 posts)DWS is a lightening rod of controversy. By doing this it's saying she approves (in public)of her actions.
