Jon Husted wants feds to keep out of Ohio elections

Source: Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch

Despite a warning from the FBI director the day before about hackers’ attempts to disrupt the presidential election, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted doesn’t want the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s help in securing the state’s voting setup.

Such a move would be tantamount to handing over control of Ohio’s election to Washington, Husted reasons.

“The federal government has a lot of mission creep when it comes to elections in the country,” Husted said Thursday in a conference call with reporters.

The Republican called on Congress to establish a law prohibiting the Homeland Security Department from defining election equipment as “critical infratructure” that theoretically could be taken over by the federal government in a national emergency.

In Other Words: We don't want the Feds coming in and making sure out elections are fair and honest. Why they might want us to put more voting machines in areas that tend to vote Democrat and cut down the 8 hour lines. They might want to actually check the software to be sure it tallies the votes correctly. And (gasp) they might want us to secure the machines and not let poll workers download the vote tallies onto their laptops and drive the laptops to the counting stations, because we all no there is no possibility that that worker might fudge the vote.

". SMARTech’s top client was none other than the Bush-Cheney campaign itself and SMARTech also did work for Jeb Bush and the Republican National Committee. And it was Ohio’s Republican Secretary of State, Ken Blackwell, who ensured that SMARTech received the contract to count votes on election night should the servers go down, which they did at exactly 11:14pm."

We've seen to much of that directed against Hillary. Remember Vince Foster? And the claims that the Clintons 'have had at least 53 people killed'?

Shit happens sometimes, and unless we have something more, I for one am not going there.

25. Republicans can't win Presidential elections without cheating
Sat Oct 1, 2016, 05:09 PM
Oct 2016

This is my first post/reply. Please forgive any errors, I'm in the learning stage.

Republicans have only won the popular vote once out of the last 6 Presidential elections. I'm sure we remember that W lost the popular vote in 2000 and after the Supreme Court stopped the recount in Florida, Gore lost the electoral college.

W announced to the country he had a "mandate", even though he lost the popular vote, and he used it to implement policies that put our country, it's citizens and the world on a path to catastrophe after catastrophe.

They know they can't win on their policies. So they have to cheat. Redraw districts favorable to them in states, get the voting rights act gutted, convince people there's voter fraud, enact strict voter id laws, cut early voting, purge voter rolls, on and on..which disproportionally affect those that vote for Democrats.

It's been incredibly disturbing to see the lengths they will go to in order to take over all three branches of gov't. And now we have to add Russian's hacking voting machines.

One of the most dangerous things I've heard and read is that if HRC wins the election, only 21% of Trump supporters will believe/accept the results. And now Trump is saying he may not accept the outcome if Hillary wins. This is a recipe for violence and it scares me.

Like Ken Blackwell did. Rove still has some friends left in the IT services industry, I guess.

Any commie or nazi hacking into the Ohio presidential election is Husted's business, so butt out feds. Sez Husted. Odd that those 2 hacker groups seem to be backing dRump, like Husted, but that's a complete coincidence. He's really all about democracy, favors good governance, government performing it's legally defined functions properly, and he's against government overreach. Honest. I hear they call him Honest John in all the repug party's safeguarding American Democracy Good Governance meetings. He's just saying the government of the United States should stay out of each and every one of the States. That is, as long as it's a Democratic federal government, that was successfully elected twice by the majority of Ohio residents to represent them.

For cryin out loud, is that too much to ask?

..they know if the FBI is watching they won't be able to pull the bait and switch final vote totals. This is what the Karl Rove meltdown was all about in 2012.

They are counting on flipping the final vote in Ohio and with the FBI watching that ain't going to happen.

They know that can win fairly so the steal.

For gawd's sake you had a bloody civil war between States! There should be a more national standardized system, verifiable by public officials for something as important as a national election. If you insist on voting machines, they should be federally distributed, publicly owned with independent oversight.

But paper ballots would be superior for accuracy and security, something easy to for any State to implement. Sometimes you don't need to invent a new mousetrap.

and I am totally on board with having a Federal election board or oversight. If it is up to the states, well, you get Jim Crow laws. And if a federal oversight method is partisan, you get rulings against Jim Crow tossed out.

Wish we could go back to why individuals having the RIGHT to vote was important enough to revolt against the English King George, create a new country, a new form of government and have generation upon generation sacrifice to protect that right.

And as long as I live, I will never forget what occurred in the 2000 and 2004 elections. It was straight out election fraud. It was a crime against democracy. J. Kenneth Blackwell should be in jail. It was so blatant, all you needed was a pencil and paper to figure it out. And please, don't think they didn't try it with Obama? But the turnout was too great. Frankly, I don't think Ohio has had a honest election since the 1990's. I do not believe that John Kasich beat Ted Strickland in the race for governor in 2010. America is the only democracy that relies on a privatized voting system. Why the Democratic Party trust electronic voting systems owned by Republicans is beyond me.

And it works the following way ..... say Jamal Green votes in Indiana well the crosscheck
program stops anybody from OH w/the name of Jamal Green from voting because that
person must be Jamal Green from Indians coming over to OH so he can vote twice.

But everybody from DU can rest easy becuase I will be doing voter protection work
in OH this year.

BTW Husted claims to be a good Christian but he is real slimy and he lies all the time.
