CHARLOTTE, N.C. Hillary Clinton called for end-to-end reform of the criminal-justice system on Sunday, telling this community that has been roiled by racial unrest that simply imposing more law and order wont solve the countrys problems.
The Democratic presidential nominee sought to offer comfort to a city that is still struggling with the aftermath of the recent shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott by police. While Mrs. Clinton attended a church service and met with African-American community leaders in North Carolina on Sunday, her campaign aides and fellow Democrats defended the former secretary of states leaked comments about young voters who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary.
In Charlotte, Mrs. Clinton spoke bluntly about the different experiences and fears of whites and African-Americans. She told parishioners at a predominantly African-American church, that as a grandmother, she worries, but my worries are not the same as black grandmothers.
I wouldnt be able to stand it if my grandchildren had to be scared and worried the way too many children across our country feel right now, Mrs. Clinton said as she called on Americans to see recent violence through our childrens eyes.......................

Last week, Zianna Oliphant, 9, stood before the Charlotte City Council and tearfully spoke about how she feels black people are treated differently than others.

On Sunday, standing in a church here in a city rocked by protests over Scott's death, Clinton said, "When I read what she had said, I had tears in my eyes too."
Clinton said she worries about her grandchildren, but "my worries are not the same as black grandmothers'."
"Because my grandchildren are white," she added, "because they are the grandchildren of a former president and secretary of State, let's be honest, they won't face the same kind of fear we heard from the young children testifying before the City Council."....................

...............We have to fight for common sense reforms to stop the epidemic of gun violence in our communities, said Clinton. Gun violence is by far the leading cause of death for young black men. More than the next nine causes combined.
Clinton later took those talking points to a round table discussion with seven Charlotte community activists at Merts in Uptown Charlotte.
I want to spend a lot more time listening than talking," Clinton said, with a cup of coffee before her.
Media wasnt allowed to stay for the conversation but Clintons aide said the discussions centered on racial, economic and social justice issues...................................
