Ohio to resume executions in January after three-year pause

Source: Reuters

Ohio prison officials plan to resume execution of condemned inmates starting in January 2017, ending a three-year pause in carrying out death sentences, state prison officials said on Monday.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction said it would proceed with the scheduled execution of Ronald Phillips, convicted of the rape and murder of a 3-year-old girl, under new lethal-injection protocols updated to meet approval of the U.S. Supreme Court.
