CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WECT) — Law enforcement officials have taken a man into custody following an active shooter situation in Carolina Beach Monday afternoon.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, there are no known injuries to citizens or law enforcement at this time.

Carolina Beach officials said law enforcement responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of Searay Lane. Dispatch confirmed the incident was first reported around 2 p.m.

Police Chief Chris Spivey said once officers arrived in the area, they began to take on gunfire from the suspect. The officers immediately sought cover and were eventually extracted by other law enforcement officials.
