Glucose-Sensing, Non-Invasive Contact Lens Invented
Researchers have announced an amazing new technology for people with diabetes that could allow blood-glucose level testing via a non-invasive contact lens that samples glucose levels in tears.

The paper describes the development of a tiny device, built from multiple layers of gold nanowires stacked on top of a gold film and produced using solvent-assisted nanotransfer printing, which optimized the use of surface-enhanced Raman scattering to take advantage of the technique's ability to detect small molecular samples.

This is pretty cool, sci-fy type tech for diabetics to manage their sugar levels!
I hope this works out! Like probably everyone on DU and everyone, period, I know so many people with diabetes of one type or the other. Indeed, my dad had type I diabetes. So any progress toward detecting or controlling (maybe one day curing) diabetes means so much to me.

(24,761 posts)If so, get me a pair. They'll do me double duty: correct my lousy vision while they monitor my blood sugar, allowing me to manage my Type 2 diabetes. Only question is, how much do they cost?
