Democrat reports attack by Trump supporter in New Mexico
Oct 6, 6:48 PM EDT
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- A New Mexico Democratic candidate called police after he said an angry Donald Trump supporter tried to run over him and his mother in a parking lot after hurling insults and expletives at them about Hillary Clinton and Democrats.
Sergio S. Gonzalez, a candidate for county commissioner in southern New Mexico, told police a woman attempted to strike him with her car outside the Democratic Party headquarters in Roswell, New Mexico last week following an unprovoked tirade against the Democratic presidential nominee.
According to the 39-year-old retired Marine, the driver approached him, his 72-year-old mother and two others as they stood outside the headquarters. "This lady came out of nowhere and started yelling every dirty word in the book at us," Gonzalez told The Associated Press. "She drove away then came back."
The woman screamed that the Democrats were ruining the country and promised that Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, would fix the nation, Gonzalez said.

(12,904 posts)Is there any chance that if some of the major Republican assholes publicly called him out specifically for this type of behavior (inciting violence), that he would stop being so reckless?
He must know enough about history to understand the danger he is bringing to this election season. I cannot believe that there is not one person who can make him stop. There are armed agents standing just a few feet away. Can they not push him into a closet somewhere, and spend two or three minutes explaining to him the consequences of poorly chosen words? He is not only placing the presidential candidates (himself included) safety in jeopardy; but, he is placing unnecessary risk upon the the protective agents, any dignitaries onstage, and even the crowds attending the rallies.
His behavior is beyond reckless.

(1,397 posts)I live in a Republican area -- rural Virginia county. I drive an F250 Super Duty with several bumper stickers, including "Clinton-Kaine 2016," "Proud To Be A Democrat;" "I stand with Planned Parenthood."
I get a lot of frowns and the occasional middle finger. One clown stopped at my truck in the hardware store parking lot and told me "All you Democrats should be shot."
I have a concealed carry permit but have never carried a weapon. Now, there's a pistol under the front seat.

Even if it were said in jest (which evidently it wasn't), that's ghastly

(11,949 posts)Of course, telling that to anyone is crazy. I also drive a big truck. I find that I rarely get cut off or anything like that. Most people where I live would assume a person driving my truck is likely armed. Tool box, steps and a well used trailer hitch.
Like you I also have a concealed carry permit and never carry a weapon. Well, in a very rare instance which is why I have it. And that is the reason I do not have stickers. Because I would feel the need to carry since there are bunch of deplorable folks in the basket.
Not criticizing your decision to do so, I just decided differently. Mainly because my part of the state is going blue so I do not need to show the flag, as you might say.
Have a nice day.

(40,416 posts)He discusses Bob Altemeyer's work in conjunction with the George W. Bush administration and the GOP in general.
It is fully footnoted and is a really good read.
And yes, it is that John Dean. Keith Olbermann used to have him on Crossfire fairly regularly.
Anyway, I can recommend this book.

(22,893 posts)Sure we get angry-- frequently furious-- at them, but would anyone here ever try to inflict serious physical injury? Just because someone else's voting choice is different from ours?
So why is it drumpf followers do? That's why I can't help thinking they're unhinged (what with their death threats to newspapers who endorse HRC (that's unthinkable to me), their hateful rhetoric, and on and on)-- they're rampant, no-holds-barred, monsters. They're certainly not acting like any Americans I know.
And they give me the creeps

He thinks he is so above us that what damage happens to us is unimportant.
