Russia defends Trump from UN critic
Source: The Hill
Russias government lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations over a top officials condemnation of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, according to a Friday report.
Vitaly Churkin, Russia's ambassador to the U.N., issued a verbal demarche to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in a private meeting on Sept. 13 over comments from Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, the high commissioner of human rights, The Associated Press said Friday.
Zeid branded Trump and several European leaders as demagogues during a speech on Sept. 6, saying they share similarities with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
All seek in varying degrees to recover a past, halcyon and pure in form, where sunlit fields are settled by peoples united by ethnicity or religion living peacefully in isolation, pilots of their fate, free of crime, foreign influence and war, Zeid said at the Hague.

(34,582 posts)I get about one a week. I am really wondering if I am awake right now, but they say one of the test to judge whether you are asleep or not is to try read or type something. This requires language skills, and that part is the brain is generally not active during false awakenings.

What a really, really bizarre and disturbing situation.

(35,296 posts)Putin's been quite clear. The UN works for the countries in the UN.
Employees don't criticize their bosses. That works when the UN criticizes Putin, it works when the UN criticizes Assad, it works when the UN criticizes pretty much anybody without the bosses' approval.
The SC can criticize. It's the bosses. But for the lower ranking peons, they stay out of countries' domestic politics.
Now, this is obvious to anybody who follows Putin's rhetoric over time. If you tune in just when the rhetoric touches something that interests you, all you notice are those little bits and then it's easy to assume that those little bits are the full picture.
