Russia says U.S. actions threaten its national security - RIA

Source: Reuters

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday that the United States had been taking aggressive steps that threatened Russia's national security, the RIA news agency reported.

"We have witnessed a fundamental change of circumstances when it comes to the aggressive Russophobia that now lies at the heart of U.S. policy towards Russia," it quoted Lavrov as saying.

"It's not just a rhetorical Russophobia, but aggressive steps that really hurt our national interests and pose a threat to our security."

Accuse the other for what you have been doing. I'm just waiting for the POTUS or the UN to formulate some sort of sanction to deal with this seeming state sanctioned hacking/meddling in our election problem. This is a highly aggressive act, is threatens our national security.

Of course, Trump's modus operandi is to accuse others of something egregious that is exaggerated or distorted, but which takes a little of the counterpunch out when it is discovered that he has done the very thing he has blamed his opponent for, only 10 times worse.

as is often the case as the countries on the council (including the US) often block things that they perceive will have a negative on them or an ally.

"steps", "change of circumstances", "hurt our national interests" ... he didn't even bother to specify if this is about trade, computer security, or a particular continent or ocean. He could leave that as an voice mail message for years "hi there, this is Russia, we're out this weekend, but we can assure you the USA is currently posing a threat to our national security, so whatever we do now will be justified".

So disturbing and so dangerous.

I often wonder if Lavrov actually believes this stuff himself. I remember watching him on TV, delivering the first BS on the Crimean invasion, and he looked pale, tense, speaking only in Russian, looking down at the lectern, and reading strictly from a written text. This was several years ago, and it still sticks in my mind: the disconnect with his diplomatic-charm shtick was striking. Which is the mask, I wonder?

as weak compared to Russia. This after Kerry spoke after putting aside prepared remarks at the UN directly calling the Russian explanations (and there were more than one) about the Aid convey that was hit by air fire. Yet, Lavrov, the foreign minister speaks of aggressive steps the US has taken. Oddly, it might be the only people impressed by Russia's aggressiveness are right wing Republicans.

The US held very few cards in Syria, but had worked conscientiously to get the ceasefire agreement and had made many concessions to Assad. Russia was in the easier position, invited in by the government to a country where they long had a Navy facility. Instead, Russia appeared to think that they could get more via a military victory. I know there are multiple stories of how this started and that no country comes out looking good, but what is clear is that Syria and Russia are engaged in an all out attack on a metropolis where many innocent people are living.

What these comments show is that Russia does feel the impact of the sanctions that Obama and the west imposed. This is 180 degrees from the Republican view of the strong Putin and weak Obama. What it shows is that the Republicans think that only "punishment" for bad behavior has to be military -- and they completely missed that as Putin annexed Crimea, was complicit in an airliner being shot down and has been bombing hospitals in Syria, there has been a unified western response --- sanctions.
