Exclusive poll: GOP voters want the party to stand by Trump
Source: Politico
A wave of Republican officials abandoned Donald Trump on Saturday, but, at least for now, rank-and-file Republicans are standing by the party's presidential candidate, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll conducted immediately after audio was unearthed Friday that had the GOP nominee crudely bragging about groping women and trying to lure a married woman into an affair.
Overall, fewer than four-in-10 voters -- 39 percent -- think Trump should end his presidential campaign, while only slightly more voters, 45 percent, think he should not drop out.
But voters are largely viewing Trump's comments through their own partisan lens: 70 percent of Democrats say Trump should end his campaign, but just 12 percent of Republicans -- and 13 percent of female Republicans -- agree.
As of now, GOP voters largely want the party to stand behind Trump. Nearly three-quarters of Republican voters, 74 percent, surveyed on Saturday said party officials should continue to support Trump. Only 13 percent think the party shouldnt back him.

Some staffers inside the Republican National Committee are rebelling and defying orders to continue working for Donald Trump, according to a source familiar with the situation.
"Theyre dropping their duties to the campaign," the source told Business Insider. "Turning their attention to Senate/House."
"Folks at the RNC are disgusted," the source said.
"Expect RNC [staffers] to start leaving if Reince doesn't act," the source added, referring to party chairman Reince Priebus. ........................

(14,558 posts)We may avoid catastrophe with this election, but we are doomed to continue on this path because of what the republican party has created over the last three plus decades.
They have stoked the hatred and animus in this country to the point where they can't control it, and as a political party with the only interest being in winning elections, they will continue to bend to the will the masses that they have stoked this hatred in.
90% of the republicans I know are voting Trump, some absolutely OK with him being the POS he is. But, there are a LOT of them who have some awareness of just how horrible he is, but they have been so completely programmed to believe in the evil liberal boogyman that they truly think the most insanely absurd characterizations of Hillary Clinton.
There simply is NOTHING ANY republican can do that will worse than what a democrat is simply by having a D by his or her name.
SO ... We may clear this disaster, but republicans will continue to raging assholes, the media will continue to gleefully carry their water and the addle minded "middle" of the country will hear republicans screaming like lunatics and just assume democrats are doing something wrong.

(23,927 posts)the members of the Republican party voted for their choice of candidates in the primary, for better or for worse
to flake on the candidate just because tRump turned out to be very much of the "worse" side of that equation is small-d anti-democratic.
like it or not, every self-identified Republican has the stench of tRump's taint on them now. they are all responsible for his rise to power, and they should act responsibly on the downside as well.
