San Antonio cops will be punished for wearing 'Make America Great Again' hats with Donald Trump

Source: New York Daily News

A gaggle of cops in San Antonio will be punished after being caught sporting Donald Trump hats while escorting the presidential candidate to the airport on Tuesday.

At least 15 uniformed, on-duty cops with the San Antonio Police Department motorcycle unit in Texas violated the city’s policy by wear the flashy “Make America Great Again” hats, Police Chief William McManus said in a statement.

"The officers wearing the campaign hats while in uniform violated SAPD policy and will be disciplined appropriately,” McManus wrote. “SAPD officers are charged with protecting the entire community. The officers displayed poor judgment. I expect them to know better than to give the appearance of endorsing a candidate while on duty and in uniform, regardless of the political campaign or the candidate."

The eager motorcade was shown posing with Trump and shaking his hand at San Antonio International Airport in a video shared to the candidate’s Twitter.

While they are certainly entitled to their own political opinions, while out in public like that, they need to have an appearance of complete neutrality.

is showing they support his racism. Full on. How do they deny they are racist and support this horrible racist man for president?

And it does matter. They are not just regular citizens. They are given a gun and badge and lots of authority. By throwing their support behind trump, they sure aren't making minorities feel any safer.

the Fraternal Order of Police went after the Pittsburgh Chief of Police for appearing in uniform at the Democratic National Convention, to talk about Community Policing.

It went through a disciplinary hearing, but the Chief had the backing of the Mayor and the rules were made clearer about appearing in uniform & politicking.

Had the Chief appeared at the Republican Convention I wonder if the FOP would have said anything.

My tax dollars in San Antonio should not be used to promote an idiot.

This has got to be one of the dumbest stunts in a long time. The protestors at the Trump function far outweighed any supporters. Did these cops just think no one was going to notice? No, they just thought they would wear their hate on their heads and everyone would be impressed.

Doesn't work that way
