Breaking: ND Prosecutor Seeks "Riot" Charges Against Amy Goodman For Reporting On Pipeline Protest

Source: Democracy Now!

(Bismarck, North Dakota–October 15, 2016 ) A North Dakota state prosecutor has sought to charge award-winning journalist Amy Goodman with participating in a "riot" for filming an attack on Native American-led anti-pipeline protesters. The new charge comes after the prosecutor dropped criminal trespassing charges.

State’s Attorney Ladd R Erickson filed the new charges on Friday before District Judge John Grinsteiner who will decide on Monday (October 17) whether probable cause exists for the riot charge.

Goodman has travelled to North Dakota to face the charges and will appear at Morton County court on Monday at 1:30 pm local time (CDT) if the charges are approved.

“I came back to North Dakota to fight a trespass charge. They saw that they could never make that charge stick, so now they want to charge me with rioting, " said Goodman. "I wasn’t trespassing, I wasn’t engaging in a riot, I was doing my job as a journalist by covering a violent attack on Native American protesters."

I'm a local volunteer journalist/public information specialist. I took on this role two decades ago b/c the newspapers in the area were going downhill; the coverage of local and regional issues was steadily decreasing as the papers got swallowed up by large corporations. Meanwhile, as the region grew in population, the financial, environmental and social problems got worse.

I have been ignored when asking questions publicly, harassed, called names in papers and online, and this continues currently. I've always tried to go high while they go low and just stick to the facts I dig up. It's not easy to deal with these R's who have ruled my town and region this entire time.

I'm behind Amy 100%. Please stand with journalists.

is not to file charges that will be upheld in court, but to bankrupt DU by forcing them to defend against these charges.
Law enforcement, in the employ of Big Oil, is looking to keep Goodman and her organization so busy in court they don't have time or resources to provide news coverage of events.
We should all cut cheques to DU to help defend against this malicious persecution.

and to show the world that this is "our land" in the first place is now a riot, and the brave "woman" showing this is now considered anarchist.

I just wonder if the "governor, the district judge, and the prosecutor", had there ancestral grave site disturbed and it was shown to the world would they not also want the world to see this being reported, there foot fits in there mouth of hypocrisy, when they speak.

Where are the three congressional representatives on this "riot", that a brave "woman and many others reported and saw this crime------no where

They are nothing more than hypocrites of the corporation, they are nothing more than the 2016 Manifest Destiny and Doctrine of Discovery enablers, and they were caught and the human rights abuse was noted and they didn't and don't like it one bit

(Wado) Thank you, Amy Goodman, I will send you some money to help DU (Democracy Now) and too your other fine reporters and also to the to speak about human rights, because of the Principles

Let's finally define what constitutes journalism and news in our time, so it's distinguishable from commentary and entertainment. I'd welcome that reckoning.

If the judge was stupid enough allow this to go forward, depending on the outcome, this would get overturned if it had to go all the way to the Supreme Court

Another reason why those progressives who say they won't vote for the Democratic nominee, need to have their head examined

a new SC justice will have filled the spot.

I also don't think it would get that far

It is too obvious a blatant abuse of power, and violates the Fourteenth Amendment among other things

Amy is not one to back down when it comes to things like this.
