Dozens come forward about student charged with sex assault

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Dozens of women have reported encounters with a University of Wisconsin student charged with sexually assaulting an acquaintance, and officers found a black book at the man's apartment listing women he'd met and documenting his "sexual desires," authorities said.


Alec Cook, 20, of Edina, Minnesota, is facing nine charges, including false imprisonment and strangulation, in a case involving a female acquaintance who told investigators Cook assaulted her, choked her until she was nearly unconscious and wouldn't let her leave his apartment.

After those charges were filed, several other women came forward with allegations against Cook, who has since been suspended from school and banned from the Madison campus. Additional charges involving those women were being prepared, Dane County Assistant District Attorney Colette Sampson said in court Monday.

A search warrant filed in Dane County this week said Madison police have also been contacted by "dozens of other females" since Cook was charged in the Oct. 12 case.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A University of Wisconsin-Madison student already accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his apartment this month was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting four other women since early 2015.

Alec Cook, 20, of Edina, Minnesota, now faces seven counts of second-degree sexual assault, three counts of third-degree sexual assault, two counts of strangulation, two counts of false imprisonment and one count of fourth-degree sexual assault.

The complaint prosecutors filed Thursday accuses Cook of assaults dating back to March 2015. Prosecutors said one of the women was assaulted multiple times during a ballroom dancing class she was attending with Cook this past spring. The other alleged victims were a woman Cook met at a party in March 2015; a woman he met in a human sexuality class in February; and a woman he met during a psychology class experiment in August.

Cook was charged last week with sexually assaulting a woman in his apartment the night of Oct. 12 after inviting her over after studying together.

8. It seems like his behavior is getting worse

as time goes by. He groped a woman in a ballroom dance class. He has raped one woman and tried to strangle two. I think this guy could have been on the road to something much worse (murder) - hopefully he will be off campus and out of society for a very long time.
