Female Lawyer Accuses Justice Clarence Thomas Of Groping Her In 1999
Source: Huffington Post
Years after his Senate confirmation hearings were roiled by accusations that he sexually harassed Anita Hill, another woman has come forward to accuse Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of groping her.
Moira Smith, vice president and general counsel at Enstar Natural Gas Co., told the National Law Journal that the justice grabbed her without her consent in 1999, when she met him at a Truman Foundation dinner.
Veteran Supreme Court reporter Marcia Coyle writes that Smith described the encounter ― which allegedly took place when she was a 23-year-old Truman scholar ― on Facebook earlier this month. She has since deactivated her Facebook page.
Smith told the NLJ that Thomas cupped his hand around my butt and pulled me pretty close to him and later squeezed her behind during a June 1999 dinner for Truman scholars at the home of Louis Blair, then head of the Truman Foundation.

(43,890 posts)BREAKING: Clarence Thomas Does The UNTHINKABLE, Turns Against Republican Party (DETAILS)
Prominently conservative US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas spoke out strongly this week against the Senate Republicans who continue to block President Obamas Supreme Court nominee to replace the deceased Antonin Scalia.
Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill Scalias seat months ago, but leading Senate Republicans almost immediately jumped on the notion that, according to some completely precedent lacking but convenient notion, Obama should not be the one to fill Scalias seat since the election, and thus the next beginning of the next presidency, is so soon.
The Republicans responsible for the obstructionism likely initially based their policy on a hope that a Republican would win the White House.
Such a hope is fine and dandy, but Obamas tenure isnt over yet, no matter how much Republicans would like it to be. He is still the president, and it is still the presidents responsibility to fill vacant seats on the Supreme Court.

Looks like the repugs were holding a Trump card against Clarance just in case he stepped out of line.
Not that I would defend his actions or dismiss the charges as false, only that I would question the timing.

(12,448 posts)Of course, in 1991 when Anita Hill testified, there probably were women watching who knew about Thomas from bitter personal experience, but were afraid to come forward. It doesn't seem like that long ago, but the climate at the time was definitely unfriendly to women accusing powerful (and not so powerful) men.
One thing (among others) that gives these women and the 12 (so far) women accusing Donald Trump is that none of them have accused rape. It's groping, grabbing, along with inappropriate comments. If they wanted to lie, why not make the accusations as bad as possible?
