AZ teacher to Muslim student: 'I can’t wait until Trump is elected. He’s going to deport all you'
Source: Daily Kos
The ACLU has filed an official complaint against an Arizona public charter school after a sixth grade teacher from the Academy of Excellence in Phoenix repeatedly viciously harassed a Muslim student who is a refugee from Somalia.
I cant wait until Trump is elected. Hes going to deport all you Muslims. Muslims shouldnt be given visas. Theyll probably take away your visa and deport you. Youre going to be the next terrorist, I bet.

It seems to me the Fox Noize/ Trumpeteer construct is turning out lunaplorables.

(2,412 posts)A teacher in an elementary school was talking bad to some Somali kids saying: "Your parents don't pay taxes so you are going back to Somalia." This terrified the children. I went with immigrant student advocates to visit the principal and remind her that this kind of talk was not appreciated by the immigrant community and that it was illegal, that people might be willing to take it to court and I alerted the school district's lawyer. This way the principal could not protect their pet teacher. The teacher has since retired and it was assured that she could not return to the district as a substitute teacher. Stand up. Sometimes a community and a person can do a lot. Not in my town!

Methinks the culture of corruption runs so deep at that school that it should be closed.
So much for making money by bullying little kids.

(2,056 posts)Sometimes teachers suck. As someone who raised 4 kids in public schools I can assure you that there are just as many awful teachers in public schools as there are in any other schools.
I live in Florida and I actually like school choice as it's done here. The performing arts schools allow lower income kids the opportunity to get great training they otherwise would never be able to afford.

(10,302 posts)While I'm for more school independence within the regular system, maybe charters are a step too far... especially when they can sort-of cherry pick their students... and can often perform worse than the county schools? Magnets yes. Charters... maybe, needs reform imo.

Trump is a monster waiting to happen, thankfully he has no chance in hell at the WH.

The first one I have no problems with. . .teacher should be reprimanded for poor judgement. This asshole in (ugh, my home state of Arizona) Phoenix needs to be run out. But to call charter school teachers "Teachers" is an insult to teaching.
Those that run charter schools are just as racism, bigoted and xenophobic, but they have a big bullshit business smile that they use as they parasitically rob from the local public school coffers while convincing idiot, brain-dead parents that the public school sucks.

(131 posts)For a teacher to spew that garbage at a child is not only reprehensible & inexcusable, it is indefensible.
Said teacher should be terminated immediately & the school scrutinized for other potential racist deplorables who have no business in a teaching position.
That poor child.
This story breaks my heart.

(802 posts)I only know of a couple trump supporters at my work. One has been recently placed on a weeks suspension for racist remarks. In the last few months I've had half a dozen foul mouthed patients with "Make America Grunt Again" hats act out despicably in public. What the Trumpeteer / Fox Noise consortium is teaching an entire demographic is acceptable makes me think they're on the path of getting shut down for inciting riotous behaviors. Seems every day I read something more deplorable.
So far, this and RW threats to assassinate HRC have taken the home the deplorable's trophies.
Hopefully they'll all be taught a clear, undeniable lesson soon in the form of a blue landslide.

(16,843 posts)it's free-range rude out there. I'm not surprised to hear bigoted remarks from just about anybody anymore. In fact, some members of minority groups think that their ethnicity inoculates them from being called a bigot. It's been like that since forever, though. No entire group of people is immune to bigotry; in fact, you'd have to be some kind of bigot to believe that.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)Wouldn't you agree?
LuvNewcastle
(16,843 posts)so yes, I agree. But sometimes folks expect more from others just because of their race. I understand why people do expect more from some than others, but it's really not fair to give one person more racism points than another based solely on race.

Q: A country has a population of 300,000,000. President Trump deports 350.000,000 of them. How many people would need to reenter the country in order to make it empty?
A: 500,000.

(16,068 posts)According to the ACLU, other students have provided their own accounts of what occurred to support the claims!
An investigation has to be conducted before any charges can be filed. The ACLU has asked the Justice Department and the Department of Education to investigate.
A spokesperson for Academy of Excellence public charter school in east Phoenix referred questions about the alleged mistreatment to an attorney. Which means the school has already circled the wagons, and the teacher won't be making any statements!

I have do have a question, what does a video clip of the 9/11 attacks have to do with either science or math? Granted I am the product of a public school education...and I do remember watching a Disney cartoon in math class, it was about math!!!
oberliner
(58,724 posts)I also had that same question in my head about why a math teacher was showing a 9/11 video - unless maybe she is also a homeroom teacher (or the equivalent) and there was some special commemoration going on or something along those lines.
Since this is a charter school, they might run things differently than traditionally schools would.

(1,121 posts)It would be vile enough if these comments were directed at an adult, but even more so when a child is a recipient of this reprehensible behavior. Occasionally there are stories that are so inspiring that you believe that there still are some decent people in the world and offer a glimmer of hope. Then something like this comes along and you crash back to earth. So very soul crushing.
