NATO to pull $30B worth of gear from Afghanistan
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -- NATO says it is planning the logistics for withdrawing $30 billion worth of military equipment and gear from Afghanistan when alliance troops leave the country.
A senior NATO official said on Tuesday the coalition's state-of-the-art gear has to be taken out of Afghanistan by the end of 2014, when American and other NATO troops are to end their combat mission.
He says the operation to remove thousands of armored vehicles, artillery pieces, and vast quantities of other equipment accumulated over the 10-year war will start soon.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the planning is still in its initial stages.

(62,444 posts)Even if you know where everything goes, it's easier for the movers (or your friend with a pickup truck) to unload it without having to ask you where everything goes.

(9,067 posts)and pay off Pakistan $40B to let the trucks through...and then spend $20B to mothball the stuff in the dessert...and then spend $100B to buy replacement stuff...etc...

(58,162 posts)the contract was for each item not the weight. so they would load one machine on a truck a deliver it 500 miles. it took a year to finally move all the stuff in the factory to it`s new location.
