NORTHERN LIBERTIES (WPVI) --
A 27-year-old man has been arrested in the theft of several laptops from Clinton staffers in Northern Liberties. Police say a search warrant was executed Saturday on the 500 block of Diamond Street, and all three laptops were recovered from the suspect's residence.
The suspect, who is known to police, was taken into custody. Charges are pending. The suspect's identity has not been released at this time.
Investigators say three campaign workers left the laptops inside backpacks in an SUV parked on the 100 block of Brown Street after 8 p.m. Friday. They went to dinner on the 900 block of North 2nd Street, and when they returned around 9:15 p.m., the vehicle had been broken into, and those backpacks were gone.Investigators say those laptops did not contain any sensitive information pertinent to the campaign.
The Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security assisted the Philadelphia Police Department with the investigation.

Short article but amazing detective work! I expect that there are many surveillance cameras in the area and if the perp used a car to leave the area, then perhaps they got a license plate and were able to trace it. The location where they found the suspect is due north of Northern Liberties near Kensington.

(11,843 posts)Often, there are people who are people that if a certain type of crime is committed, the police know who it is based on the description of the crime.
Someone broke into my mom's house, stole the laptop that I bought her and the police caught the guy's girlfriend a week later trying to pawn the laptop. I cracked the password they had set up and found pictures of the guy on the hard drive after she got it back. These are often not very smart individuals...

(10,857 posts)I've got a list of about ten programs that I absolutely must use, which don't work on Linux and which I can't afford on a Mac. The second I have a viable alternative, I'm gone from Windows and never coming back.
But I've been saying that since 1995!

(128,783 posts)Been running some version of Linux (initially Red Hat & Debian, but most of the time SuSE, which I am using currently) since 1995. Keep hoping that more these windoze programs can be run in WINE but I still end up dual-booting (too much hassle to go back to fooling around with VMs but I may try again one of these days).
