Rep. Tom Price Reveals Republicans Eyeing Medicare Overhaul In 2017

Source: TPM

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), the chairman of the budget committee, told reporters on Thursday that Republicans are eyeing major changes to Medicare in 2017.

Price, who is being floated as a possible Health and Human Services Secretary in the next administration, said that he expects Republican in the House to move on Medicare reforms "six to eight months" into the Trump administration.

He also noted that Republicans are eyeing using a tactic known as budget reconciliation to make the change. That process allows Republicans to pass bills with a simple majority in the U.S. Senate.

When asked by TPM about timing for changes to Medicare, Price said "I think that is probably in the second phase of reconciliation, which would have to be in the FY 18 budget resolution in the first 6-8 months."

They're not going to abruptly end it, they're going to phase it out.

So, essentially those of us under 65 or so will have pissed away every penny we paid in Medicare taxes.

administrators who believe in what they're doing, and claim it was always failing, just dying of natural causes--but is being saved in different, sustainable form under them. VERY different.

They do want to get re-elected. One of the big reasons we lost so bad in 2010 was the lie that Obamacare was going to hurt Medicare. Third rail time.

Just like tax reform means cuts for the ruling class. Medicare and Social Security reform will mean massive cuts if not outright elimination of them both. I am dreading the thought of working until 65 just to get Medicare, and now there will be nothing.

Their fantasy has come true, to have the opportunity to eliminate these programs that have helped so many people.

FU and the horse you road in on.

And as for this ass**** saying that in 6 to 8 months that they are going to voucher the program, with the help of Eddie Munster and his self righteous BS, FU, we are coming to a town near you.

And a big shout out to all of those Wisconsinites that voted for your "guy" did you f****ing realize that he doesn't give a S**** about your old age , disabled parents, or friends, have you figured it out yet, or do you go into the local bar, with Fox Noise blaring and wonder why your turning into a S***hole like Kansas, then have them turn the Interstate into Koch Interstate and begun charging you a toll to drive to work, you know that for profit costs being added to a project that was already paid for.

You do realize don't you that your jobs were being shipped to a "Right for Work less state called Alabama, or Mississippi or whatever, even though you are now a Right to Work for Less State, because, there wages are 20% lower, and you were being told that your fascist buddy, who is going to have his portrait along with his bigot buddy glaring at everyone when they go into the Social Security Administration, was going to bring those jobs back from Mexico and Canada, and China, when they never left.

And I bet that you were told that Medicare is going broke, well now it will, when you get a 5,000 dollar voucher, to hope that you can pay for a health care plan that covers a $85,000 cardiac arrest, but it will not you will left holding the bag for the other $80,000, and then your "jobs" are being shipped out, and who are you going to blame, me the "guy" that paid with my sweat into the Medicare and Social Security for over 45+ years.

And then your "guy" there in Wisconsin (Eddie Munster) making $223,000 gloating on how he is going to F*** everyone

Still pissed off

then the Dems need to make this THE campaign platform in 2018. The 55-64 year olds who are on the doorstep of the Medicare aged and who have paid into the system their whole adult lives will start to really think hard about this. They usually vote bigly for Rs, but I have a feeling that would change dramatically if their medicare is gone.

And that's about it. Senate and house elections are in two years. How many elected officials want to kill Medicare or Social Security right before a reelection campaign? After that the next Presidential election is only two years away. By then - world events, the economy, civil unrest, and the President's unpopularity all start to weigh on the party in power.

So Trump will have to decide what he wants his signature accomplishment to be. If he's as dumb as I think he is - he won't think about his world in those terms - which means his first accomplishment no matter how trivial will still be his only accomplishment.

Many republicans have threatened to kill Medicare and Social Security and they have all gone on to learn just what a bad idea that really is.

Imagine a lot of old people who hate Drumpf and Republicans, one by one learning they have a terminal disease they can't afford to pay for. What might they do? Let your imagination ponder that. I haven't suggested a thing.

Every promise he made that didn't enrich him was a total planned fucking malicious lie. He doesn't care about the working class and will do his best to destroy us. He knows how much we count on Medicare and Social Security and wants to steal our $$ for himself and his rich friends. He will destroy our economy and way of life along with our future. This isn't a maybe, he's already started showing how much of a lying manipulator he truly is.

IF, we have a government left in 4 years, which I think is highly doubtful, every Dem should run on Trump killed Medicare, Trump made you not be able to afford health care, Trump stole your Social Security $ and put it in a fund so that the fund managers could steal it and they end up richer and we are eating cat food. That's why I think he's planning on destroying our constitution because he knows no repugs will win under his program, everyone who's not part of the 1% will lose and lose bigly.

If they want to, they could essentially privatize Medicare. Remember Medicare for All? Now it will be Medicare for None.
