UPDATED - Trump Demands Apology After Hamilton Cast Duels With Pence

Last edited Sat Nov 19, 2016, 03:13 PM - Edit history (1)

Source: Talking Points Memo

President-elect Donald Trump tweeted that the cast of the Broadway musical "Hamilton" should apologize after they addressed Vice President-elect Mike Pence during his attendance at the show Friday night.

Trump called for the apology after a cast member gave a pointed statement about the concerns the cast had about Pence. Pence was met with boos and several cheers when he walked into the Richard Rodgers Theater.

Several theater-goers took videos of the chaotic scene as Pence walked into the theater. He waved a few times and then walked to his seat.

Pence was reportedly booed throughout the show, especially when the subjects seemed to hit home.

Update

Conservatives Echo Trump And Demand Hamilton Cast Apologize To Pence

Conservative pundits and politicians took to Twitter Saturday to defend Vice President-elect Mike Pence after the cast of the Broadway musical Hamilton addressed him in a statement after a performance he attended Friday night.

While most notably, President-elect Donald Trump defended Pence on Twitter and demanded an apology from the cast, he was not the only one to publicly take Pence's side.

Newt Gingrich
@newtgingrich

The arrogance and hostility of the Hamilton cast to the Vice President elect ( a guest at the theater) is a reminder the left still fights.

Hamilton cast & lib Broadway patrons displayed their tolerance for diversity by intolerantly booing Mike Pence out of theater.

for heckling Obama during a State of the Union address.

Two points:

-I wonder if Pence/Trump understand Hamilton's (the person's) political positions, mainly a strong Federal government.

-get used to it, guys: over half the country strongly dislikes you and your policies, and we are going to use our rights of free speech to let you know.

Pence is so far to the right and to have been part of such an extraordinarily UGLY campaign, he deserves NO courtesy.

about Hamilton. The fact that it's historically correct doesn't mean that it's anything more than extremely expensive, brilliantly conceived entertainment.

Lin Manuel Miranda might be a genius for creating this musical that has people talking about the founding of our nation, but they are not buying tickets to attend a "political event."

No, I just don't think that this kind of behavior is helpful in the long run.

No apology. Trump needs to get accustom to hearing booing, the next four years will not be easy on him or Pence. Trump for years claimed Obama was not born in the US, was not a citizen of the US. And this is just a starter. The GOP has not apologized to the Clintons for all of the RW talking points. Hell be, we are mot going to stop the booing of trump or pence.

Meanwhile, the Republicans remain top-down silly.
