Pentagon and intelligence community chiefs have urged Obama to remove the head of the NSA

The heads of the Pentagon and the nations intelligence community have recommended to President Obama that the director of the National Security Agency, Adm. Michael S. Rogers, be removed.
The recommendation, delivered to the White House last month, was made by Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter and Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper Jr., according to several U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
Action has been delayed, some administration officials said, because relieving Rogers of his duties is tied to another controversial recommendation: to create separate chains of command at the NSA and the militarys cyberwarfare unit, a recommendation by Clapper and Carter that has been stalled because of other issues.
The news comes as Rogers is being considered by President-Elect Donald Trump to be his nominee for DNI, replacing Clapper as the official who oversees all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies. In a move apparently unprecedented for a military officer, Rogers, without notifying superiors, traveled to New York to meet with Trump on Thursday at Trump Tower. That caused consternation at senior levels of the administration, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal personnel matters.

(21,596 posts)Can the military do more than relieve him of duty? Can he be charged with a crime in a military court of law?

And yes he can be charged with treason, and he can be fired by the president, that classified clearance, does not mean that he can have a sit down with some fascist just for giggles and talk shop, like hows your orange hair doing today, get your gell on correctly, and by the way did you hear your "boy" (race bannon) got heckled by citizens at a play, that just don't like a bigot such as yourself and the with white hair "guy"

You know why Trump brought up Gen. MacArthur?
Because he led the military crushing of WW I vets in Lafayette Square.
Little wink and nod to commanders to go full Patton on their troops.

All he knows about military affairs is name-dropping MacArthur and Patton.
MacArthur, because he was famed for his Trump-like taste in decor, Patton because he thinks the movie was real.

(260 posts)This is so chilling, the head of the NSA under President Obama with his vast surveillance department violates the chain of command for a political appointment?
Isn't this a court martial offense under UCMJ?

(36,023 posts)It's no small thing when the Pentagon says to beware of Adm. Michael S. Rogers, head of the NSA and possible counter-intelligence man, meeting with a Russian trojan horse like Trump.
In Trump Tower, rather than Washington. Way too much fucking stealth in that.
Trump, in debt to Russian oligarchs, is more than likely to manipulate events in Putin's favor, even if it's to do nothing to protect our historical allies against Russia's aggressions.
The Pentagon leaks to the press as our security apparatus gets meddled with, possibly weakened, by this wheeler-dealer know-nothing.
No 'Hamilton' bs dramas, we have to pay attention.
