.................According to a report from Mediaite, reporters at Obamas press conference in Lima, Peru asked Obama who his pick was for Democratic Leader. Obama reiterated his support of Pelosi as a remarkable leader. However, he continued, saying that Democrats in the House and Senate should give the new Donald Trump administration a hearing.
I certainly dont want them to do what Mitch McConnell did when I was elected, President Obama said. Meet the day of and say our sole objective is to not cooperate with him on anything even if the country is about to go into a depression so that we can gain seats in the mid-terms and defeat him.
Sen. McConnell (R-KY) announced that his single goal as the leader for the Republican Senate was to make President Obama a one-term president. Republicans proceeded to block all legislation coming out of the White House. Last year, when conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died, Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland, but Republicans have refused to give him a hearing claiming Obama doesnt deserve to nominate three justices. No president in United States history has ever had his justice denied a hearing.
My advice to Democrats is, know what you care about and what you stand for and fight for your principles even if its hard fight, Obama said....................................

I am glad that Obama stood up for Pelosi.
I would like nothing better than for Dems to just say no--but on the other hand--letting the bills come to the floor and having a public discussion is fine by me. A public airing is good for all.

I agree with the president. Don't damage the country for partisan reasons, but if there's a problem with the program, point out the problem as the reason for opposing it.

We should throw in some news conferences on the steps of the Capitol and adorn our Congressmen with some generals in the background.

(7,512 posts)These rabid weasel fuckers don't care if the MSM is blasting them 24/7. They're going to pass it no matter what. We need to obstruct EVERYTHING and then go on television and explain (as simply as you can for the knuckledraggers) why you had to do that.

(6,974 posts)However, the so-called Liberal Media that doesn't exist is not going to be blasting Rethugs nor tRump these next 4 years. I bet that they'll sit back and enjoy the ratings this treasonous GOP and that Putin-loving traitor tRump bring into the networks, even to the detriment of this country. They're not going to to anything but sit back and enjoy the cluster-fuck that will be a tRump presidency.

(6,974 posts)Agree.
However, I'm afraid that Dems already signaling that they "seem" ready to roll over to the GOP and tRump already.
Personally, I'd obstruct when I can and for good reason--not just sit back and allow the GOP to continue running over what's left of the Democratic party. Being allowed to be run over didn't always work so well for the President now did it these past 8 years?

given their previous track record.
People just don't seem to get it. These guys who are in office on the Democratic side, with a few exceptions like Warren and Ellison, have been selected by the donor class to lose to the Republicans on every issue.
Unless we upend the political establishment, we're going to be stuck with the same result.

(29,225 posts)I'm afraid you're right.
The democrats need to state why the legislation is bad for our country and the people and let the republicans do every hair brained idea they have. Let it fall on them. If the democrats make any changes the republicans will just say it was the democrats fault they changed a key piece and now it does not work. Do not vote for a bad bill obstruct it. When will they grow a backbone. Being nice and changing words to call a pig a unicorn does not magically change the pig into a unicorn.

It's a recipe for failure, and frankly, that's all that the Democratic party does even when it has overwhelming majorities in Congress.

(883 posts)Though Obama is morally right that the GOP did obstruct they were seen as standing up and fighting for something. I do not support the GOP but there is a lesson here. I would not put to much in store for the news the GOP supporters do not watch anything but Fox and they think it is too liberal. They will have to experience it to get it.

They said no just to block Obama...even things they'd originally sponsored. We don't have to do that, but we have to stop them from ruining this country.
