Standing Rock Sioux chairman says Army Corps to close camp access in pipeline protest

The chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe said Friday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to close the area where people have been camping for months to protest the Dakota Access oil pipeline.

Dave Archambault said in a statement that he received a letter from the Corps, dated Friday, which says all lands north of the Cannonball River will be closed Dec. 5.

"The letter states that the lands will be closed to public access for safety concerns," Archambault said.

Archambault said the land to be closed includes the Oceti Sakowin camp, a sprawling encampment on Army Corps land about 50 miles south of Bismarck. For months, opponents of the four-state, $3.8 billion pipeline have been camping in the area to protest the pipeline.

2. Are these the same evil people who used water cannons on natives

Are these the same evil people (aka the Morton Cty Sheriff's dept) who used water cannons on peaceful protectors, protestors who are fighting for clean water against some poisonous oil/gas/ pipeline under a big fucking river??? That belongs to all of us, when you stop to think about it.

This last week or maybe the week before, I KNOW I read articles where the sheriffs dept sprayed water / used water cannons on protestors in 25 degree weather. NO DAPL They don't want the Dakota Access Pipeline, it impacts all of our clean water.

I mean really: what kind of devil uses water as a weapon in 25 degree weather AGAINST the peaceful people trying to protect clean water from the fucking pipeline/death funnel?

Or is this some other evil entity?

Also, I think the native American protestors have ancestors whose graves are in this land. They should be able to visit the graves of their families, FFS. Without some monster oil company raping the land.
That's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary

But I STILL don't have a fucking name of the HMFIC

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE),[5] also sometimes shortened to CoE[6] is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Defense and a major Army command made up of some 37,000 civilian and military personnel,[1] making it one of the world's largest public engineering, design, and construction management agencies.

Maybe the HMFIC is

commander
Lieutenant General Todd T. Semonite, Chief of Engineers

Standing Rock protesters will not follow official directive to leave camps

Associated Press in Cannon Ball, North Dakota
Saturday 26 November 2016 20.38 GMT

Dakota Access oil pipeline protesters will not follow a government directive to leave the federal land where hundreds have camped for months, organizers said on Saturday, despite state officials encouraging them to do so.

At a press conference, Standing Rock Sioux tribal leader Dave Archambault and other protest organizers confidently explained that they would stay at the Oceti Sakowin camp and continue with nonviolent protests, a day after Archambault received a letter from the US army corps of engineers that said all federal lands north of the Cannonball river would be closed to public access 5 December over “safety concerns”.

The corps cited the coming winter and increasingly contentious clashes between protesters – who believe the pipeline could harm drinking water and Native American cultural sites – and police.

“We are wardens of this land. This is our land and they can’t remove us,” said Issac Weston, a protester and Oglala Sioux member from South Dakota. “We have every right to be here to protect our land and to protect our water.”

The Latest: County Official: Feds Need to Enforce Corps Plan

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS CANNON BALL, N.D. — Nov 26, 2016, 5:51 PM ET

The Latest on the protest against the Dakota Access oil pipeline (all times local):

4:50 p.m.

Officials from Morton County are weighing in on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plan to close land to those protesting the Dakota Access pipeline.

County commission chairman Cody Schulz says he's thankful for the Corps' decision to close the land on Dec. 5, but says it means nothing unless the federal law officers enforce it.

Schulz says county and state leaders have been asking for federal resources for months to help deal with the ongoing protests.

Schulz also joined other officials in urging the Obama administration to make a decision on an easement that would allow the pipeline to complete boring under Lake Oahe. He says the delay puts peoples' safety at risk.
