Board of Elections dismisses election protests from McCrory campaign
Source: WRAL.com
The State Board of Elections on Monday night issued an order requiring that county boards dismiss election protests filed by Gov. Pat McCrorys campaign in 52 counties.
The order from the Board of Elections states that the protests are being dismissed because they only dispute the eligibility of voters while bylaws state a successful protest must prove the occurrence of an outcome-determinative violation of election law, irregularity or misconduct.
Democrat Roy Cooper has widened his lead over Republican incumbent McCrory in the North Carolina governors race as more counties finalized their vote counting Monday.
As of Monday night, Cooper held a lead of 9,716 votes. Coopers vote total stood at 2,306,809, or 49.01 percent while McCrory held 48.80 percent of the vote with 2,297,093 ballots cast.
